Wow, just taxed my Ocean

Islington have just increased the parking charges on EVs this is their press statement:

"Introduction of electric vehicle pricing tiers

While electric vehicles are better for the environment, they do cause some pollution. These pollutants come from matter released by brakes and tyres and the process of creating and recycling the car battery.

The new seven-tier system will help make the pricing structure fairer and ensure that the council is adapting to the huge change in the range of electric vehicles available. "

Looks like EVs are going to be fair game for pollution charges in the future.
I'm just waiting for LED lights to be used as another environmental excuse for charges due to the 'blue' light having an adverse effect on nature. Night insects such as Moths etc.
Not forgetting that our shoe soles wear out leaving polluting deposits similar to tyres in many cases.

Yes, the Euro7 standard may well have an impact for EV owners entering a LEZ/ULEZ

Emission limits for tyres and brakes: tyres and brakes shed particulate matter (microscopic pieces of material) as they wear. Euro 7 will set limits for how much brake dust and tyre particles can be produced by new cars. This is an entirely new requirement.
1 peddle driving on EVs can impact brake particles.

So this will be the new standard for BEV's to meet Euro7 standards for particulates and ULEZ compliance?

If they're charging by vehicle weight then helium balloon sellers will be happy as sandboys.....

Just had to fork out £570 again on my 2019 Ocean. Twat.

In Islington EV parking permits are charged on battery size. It's still cheaper to park our electric car than diesel van though (although that will change as EV adoption increases).

For comparison, we pay £59 for the car, £335 for the van and £130 for each bike we park in the communal bike storage hanger (which takes 6 bikes and replaces a parking space).

£780 for bicycles that occupy the same space as a £59 car seems extortionate?
