VW hightop self build

Just curious, it doesn't look like you are doing much for insulation of the van that I can see in the photos. No concerns there or not planning much in the winter months?

No insulation on floor, will do the same as I did with joker and top the floor with the yoga/garage foam square tiles. (Similar to the back wall of garage).
Will be putting a bit in sides mainly silver foil and cork on roof. Spent 4winters in joker in germany/Switzerland/Scottish winters and coped just fine.
The key is ventilation, good warm gear. All these YouTubers haven’t a clue.

Need the van ready asap, got time on my side to get it ready for winter. So no heater or leisure bats yet.
Just need the basic frame/bones until funds allow me to splash out.

Best YouTubers have got to be kinging it, just been watching some of there old stuff.
Light hearted entertainment, don’t think I’ve ever seen them moan like lots do.
Other fav is itchy boots.
So lots of good YouTubers too, if anyone wants something to watch:thumb

True Blue Travellers are good for van/truck builds - they do a great job, are quite creative and don’t take themselves too seriously on their travels. Beware though if nudity isn’t your thing I like Next Meridien Expedition & Eva Zubek for adventure travel.

That Eva should step into David Attenborough shoes if he ever retires! She’s amazing presenter, to good for YouTube

Few more jobs taking shape.
Have started the roof bed and was going to do it similar to the joker. It will pull out but access is going to be through a hole in middle of bed (trap).
Joker was always fun and games getting up and down especially when there’s two of you :bananadance2

Finally getting camping time in the van, still basic set up. Local in cairngorms.
No 12v, heater, running water, or windows yet!
Have a 20L &10L bottles for water, only have watch and phone to charge so just do that when driving.
String battery lights and battery radio.IMG_6949.pngIMG_6950.pngIMG_6951.png

New addition to van, Trobolo compost loo.
Been using it for 4 days now, way better than a chem!
They all seem to be a lot of money for what they are, but the trobolo is one of the cheaper.
Will fit in a Cali too.IMG_7045.png

The factory high top looks much cleaner than the riemo ones IMO.

Cairngorms looking stunning as ever.

I call it the ice cream van at the moment!
Low roof Ts look way nicer, but needed hightop and will look better in time.
Amazed how many VW campers wave at me in basic trim van (no windows/graphics etc).

Are you planning on putting Joker style windows in the high top roof?

Undecided at the moment, have a skylight I’m hoping to fit this week.
Once that’s in I will see what extra light or ventilation is needed.

To make life easier on next camping trip, until I sort leisure bats.
Only tend to us 12v stuff so should be perfect and can use on hikes/tent campouts.IMG_7243.pngIMG_7244.png

My son is building a van for himself on an old ford transit chassis and rather than mess around building circuits, advised him to get an ecoflow. Everything is compact now and powered from the ecoflow which itself is charged from the engine. Neat solution to have a Jackery.

Not cheap, but Clayton Power worth a look, for self builds.
