Give & Take.

This thing went south after the Great Vote, where people
climbed out of the woodwork to vote against the banter,
those people never contributed at all, they just didn't like
what they didn't have to read.

That vote was sh1t.

Overly moderated too.

No freedom of speech

It used to be good in the old days when there was an odd argument going on, it was
good to see different perspectives.

Thats gone.

Another who deceives themselves into thinking that the good old days where you could slag new members and launch anonymous personal attacks were…the good old days. The “usual suspects,” as moderators have named them, are the ones responsible for professional stars like VWguru leaving and the forum’s future being boring. No one who has anything new to offer, especially those who are professionals, will put up with this arthritic BS.

Thank you. I’ve been gaining fantastic advice from this forum culminating in my order for a new Beach. I believe I have been able to whittle out the genuine ones from the others who are in the minority. Thanks again to the genuine ones who I will continue to appreciate

But its a UK forum.
The UK, where banter is okay, take it lightly or take it on the chin.

Or realise that its only a forum after all and no-one is gonna order a hit on you.

Your on the wrong track there.

Its easy, you have a problem you post it, you have your problem fixed,
you post it.

Whittling doesn't come into it.

You think it’s a UK forum…that’s revealing, cute and almost the definition of schadenfreude.

We can of course interact in any but I'm waiting for the
Spanish one....

Those of us who are language capable read caliboard. This forum is the largest worldwide English language forum, of which the UK is a right hand drive minority part, but does not equal the worldwide Spanish readership of furgovw.org. This English language forum serves the failed “Esperanto” international market, but remember that VW has factories in Mexico and Brazil, and that Mexico, not the U.S, is seen with serious misgivings as the economic “Colossus of the North” by most of Latin America. The UK right hand drive market is anecdotal in comparison. You of course would need to be fluent in Spanish or the use of Google translate in order to appreciate this.Where do you think the most up to date information about Spain, Southern France, Pyrenees, Portugal and Morocco is posted? My post about VW bike racks being illegal in Spain when folded without bikes was a contribution for English speakers who travel in Spain. The conversation has been going on at furgovw.org in Spain and Portugal for about 1 1/2 years. Fortunately most Spaniards and Portuguese are multilingual, something which as an outlier you know is not true of the UK, or perhaps more precisely, England.

Why did it take you a year and a half to alert us?

Having passed the technical inspection twice 2 and 4 years ago with the rack on, I didn’t know about the rule change until I failed the inspection 2 weeks ago until I took the rack off. When my VW dealer told me many of their clients have been having the same problem, I did a search on the Spanish language forum and discovered the rule change went into effect in 2021. I posted it here the same day.

You’re welcome.

I am new to the forum and I have just been told that my new Cali is now awaiting a ship in Germany, about 6 months earlier than expected. We are excited.
I did ask recently if anyone knows if you can fit a water tank under a 4motion Beach and all I got back was adverts from companies who sell tanks to fit a FWD. So I still don’t know. No feedback from members!
Is it advisable to pull off the underbody plastic protectors to install a skinny tank down the side?
My wife and I are not buying a Cali due to Covid. We built a campervan when we still at Uni in Sydney. It was a Nissan and we drove it all around Australia as the moved around for various jobs. We sold it when we were working in Kununurra as we had a baby by then and needed a car with an air-con. But I learned to drive in a 1970 Superbug and since that time have owned two 1960’s Beetles, a beautiful 1960 Karman Ghia, a New Beetle Turbo and still own a Passat.
The Nissan we converted as a camper was just opportunistic- we got it for the right price when we had very little money. So now, due to retire soon, it is no surprise that we wish to resume our campervan life, just this time in a VW Cali.
So this forum is important for us. We will be asking advice as we set up the Beach for travelling. I hope we get it - even if there is only a hard core of technical specialists who regularly contribute.
And, we are happy to report on our travels across the vast expanse of Australia.

Welcome.
I very much doubt if you would get any information on fitting a underbody water tank on a 4 motion Beach as that vehicle is not sold in the UK so answers would depend on European members only I'm afraid.
You could try asking on the T6 Forum as they are more into conversions.

Are you looking for a Tank to fit in the spare of the spare wheel?
This would fit 4motion as well: https://tanksdirekt.de/de/68-liter-unterflurtank-fuer-reserveradmulde-am-vw-transporter-t5-t6

Considering how many members the Forum has I note that it tends to be the predominantly the same relatively small group of Names offering advice, information etc on the many threads regarding technical/mechanical problems or information on planned trips etc.
The lack of feedback is also very annoying, especially on the technical/mechanical problems.

Is it a sign of the times? Who knows.

Hi WelshGas, I have just renewed my membership for another year, and would only say that I find the items on here to be really useful. I consider it to be great value for money, and although I don’t post often it’s nice to get feedback.

In fact I when I saw your name on this post I immediately read it as I value your opinion, so thank you.

I don’t wish to be rude but I think you misunderstand how social media, forums etc work and are approached by others (especially the young). It’s actually considered ‘good form’ to not leave unnecessary comments and to be brief when leaving them. Etiquette implies that other people’s time is valuable so you shouldn’t waste it unless you have something genuinely useful to add.

I would like to leave the spare where it is. It is not uncommon to take two spares when travelling in the Australian outback. I have had two punctures within a few kms in our previous camper just out of Lake Argyle in the far north west.
not sure what kind of travels you are planning, but, if you go so remote/wild that you need two spares and lots of water, wouldn't it be worth considering upgrading from the stock tires to something more up to the task like KO2s or similar , something more robust, more grip when not on the asphalt and with the ability to air down for grip without damaging the sidewalls? In that case a spare won't fit in the spare bay anyway, you'll need to carry the spares somewhere else like in a modified tailgate bike rack.
Just as food for thoughts, sorry if I am overthinking it.
Las time i was at the dealer though, the assistant put the van up on the lift and we had a good look underneath (both!) pretending we knew what we were looking at. One thing i can tell you: it is pretty crammed under there, with Adblue system, 4M, and in my case also the diesel heather.

So your saying its "good form" not saying Thank You when information given by members answers the question or fixes the problem in case you are accused of wasting someone's valuable time , the person who " wasted their own time " to provide you with the information in the first case.

Maybe we shouldn't answer any more questions/pleas for help or information etc: in case we impact too heavily on the " Young " ones valuable time.

Hi GJ,

I was the one and only poster who provided you with details of companies supplying underslung water tanks.

I did this to give you a general flavour of what is out there in the European market and some initial starting points for your own investigations In Aus.

I have no idea what is available in Aus, nor do I know, from your post, what set up you want to achieve & what compromises you are willing to make?

modding for a water tank would depend on what you want to do and how you want to use it (the water tank & the Cali).

your original thread post stated :

”I will make a rear slide out kitchen for it but am keen to save space by fitting the water tank under rather than within.”

not much specifc info to go on in you’re post.
essentially you asked an open ended question and I took my time to respond, you did not even ask another question Or acknowledge my post.

what I posted was not a full technical answer I’m afraid.
You’ll have to do the technical investigation yourself based on you’re requirement, with some of the suppliers I listed and whom may supply AUS.

I assumed from your post that you have some technical aptitude to allow you to look at the possibility and make an informed decision of what is on the market?

Your response in this thread :

“I did ask recently if anyone knows if you can fit a water tank under a 4motion Beach and all I got back was adverts from companies who sell tanks to fit”

what more information do you think should have been provided?
other than what i posted in your thread ? (Based on you’re input )
here is the thread

have you actually read the content of this thread?

I signed of with :

“hope that helps a bit, happy reading” !!!

other than bemoan your response what have you actually done to progress this issue ?

Oops , half written comment escaped before I finished it.
I have found solutions to many of my puzzles / problems with my California in your posts Welsh Gas and those of your knowledgeable fellow contributors.
I've not had to post too many questions, as many have been already covered in post and a forum search has turned up the answer.
My issues have ranged from rodent damage to wiring to tambour door splitting to RNS510 Sat Nav unit (quoted €2500 to replace here in Ireland) to issues with the sliding hangers on the kitchen doors - and more.
Loz, Perfectos, Boris, Granny Jen, Amarillo - I only know the names but enjoy the contributions - so thanks to all of you and others who give advice.
We really enjoy our California and have our 8th month long trip (sine 2017) to the continent booked for September.
