Europe Safari

I am planning a six week Europe Safari with wife and Cali next summer. Has anyone got any good route suggestions, things to see, places to to, and to avoid etc??

I've done a few high mileage trips around Europe over the years. Never had the luxury of spending a great deal of time over there though. If I had six weeks to spare, I would head as far east as I could go and have a slow and steady potter through Slovenia, Croatia, Bulgaria, Romania etc.
