3 seat bench headrest jammed

The middle headrest on my 3 seat bench is jammed. This obviously means it won't flatten into the bed.
Has anyone had this happen? Does anyone know how to extract the clip that appears to be stuck?
Any ideas much appreciated.

I had this. I had to get it replaced under warranty.

Thanks for your response NShep. I suspected as much. There doesn't appear to be any way of extracting it and I don't fancy taking the seat apart.

Quick update: VW have agreed to replace under warranty.
