yesterday morning about 3 mins after driving off the abs and skid warning lights came on. ...about five mins later they both went off. After setting off to return same thing.
Today when starting up same thing..lights on after a few minutes and then went off. Display briefly said ABS Fault in words.
Reading on here am hoping is a faulty sensor..meaning another expensive dealership job ..
Just had an exhaust sensor replaced as warning light like an owl had come on. When collecting the airbag light suddenly came on was told "high resistance, we have switched off light and cleared codes, just monitor and see if it comes on again .."

was it icy/wet when you drove?

use vcds diagnostics tool to analyse any fault.

Double-check all 4 wheels tyre pressures as well. Although you didn't get a flat tyre warning, you may have 2 wheels with low pressures.

Passenger air bag wires often come loose. Wiring is too short. Was a fix I think, longer wire.

it was day after of driving in snow and rain , first morning was cold but not icy at all as roads were dry but was in hilly Snowdonia ..overnight heavy rain same issue when starting off..have not tried today...
maybe Ciara's Curse ....

Hi I'm new to group and found this thread as randomly my14 plate California had same situation. I used diagnostics at garage to find it was "an intermittent fault, rear left", sender was changed and fault still showing.
When I got to inspect it on a ramp I noted that the abs sensor was slightly loose, has single cable to sensor from body, and hub is that which can take a 4 motion rear axle. Nothing like I was seeing on any video or talk. Has anyone had similar, my suspion is maybe and earthing issue??? As thire is rubber seal at end of senor on inner hub reparations it from axel. Is it magnetic or how is it working? As all say about the sensor working on a ring that can get eroded and brakes the connection on sensor. Some help/education/advice.

Were the fault codes reset when the new ABS sensor was fitted?
This is an extremely common fault and normally it’s nothing other than a faulty ABS wheel sensor. Also I would suggest you get yourself a Carista code fault reader. They are only About £25 and saves going down to the garage every time you get dash lights come on.

Cool, thank you,
Yes codes reset, the new fault came about after new sensor fitted, which is what I couldn't understand, I have idea about cleaning the contact between sensor and hub tomorrow just to be sure and see if it is this which earth/wiring issue is about. Cheers for heads up about carista, will try get one,,I used two different sorts yesterday and both were playing up, ie not connecting.

The carista is Bluetooth and for me far better and give much more information than the wired type. The best app to use is Carscanner. It gives loads for free and for just a small payment you get the full monty. Carista app is quite expensive.

Hi
Took whole thing apart today, looked over the new sensor and checked the cable with multi-metre, which had continuous power, I traced the wire, but found nothing unusual, bit it is tight behind the cupboard,
When trying to clear the codes, they kept comming back as a 0290 c which is see some on web as being marked rear left, and some videos on Google talking about a brake in the wire.

VW directed and said it needs new hub pick up as well as new sensor. The sensor which I replaced it with could be faulty,
Obviously I'm up for doing this if that is fault, they also says new sensor is £90.02,
Anybody had similar experience? And found a resolution, I see some people have had the inconcistant lighting, I had this about a month ago, but it is on all time now, which would make sense if it is corrosion of the inner abs pick up on back of hub? But we have had dry weather.

When you say you checked it with a multi meter, do you mean a resistance check of the sensor unplugged and an AC voltage output whilst spinning the wheel with it plugged back in?
Either/both of these will tell you if the sensor is dead.

There is no contact between the sensor and sensor wheel. The voltage is induced.

I believe these ABS faults can be an indication of faulty brake lights. Certainly the case on my Golf recently.

I have just done the same thing on my 2015 SE. I found there is a common fault on a splice to the main harness, there can be corrosion there. There is a guide to fishing the ABS sensor cable out of the grommet for the break light Here: https://www.vwt4forum.co.uk/threads/dreaded-abs-light.953801/

In my case it was just the ABS sensor and the light went off as I drove away although i re-did the splice first as that was a no cost fix.

I inspected the magnetic ring on the hub and that was complete and clean.

I would say that 99% of the time when the dashboard lights up like a Christmas tree it’s a brake sensor gone bad.

Hi I thought I'd add the solution I found in end as problem sorted, thank you for all the advice off members as this was part of solution,
Carista diagnostics tool was bought £24 and this was used to check codes 0290. Which I could also reset,
I got wire out of rear wing to inspect, and found no brakes, this was confirmed using a multi-metre to test current, came though clear as 11.34v with ignition on, and also ohm rearing was good and consistent in compare to opposite side.
Got a new sensor, as the replacement sensor was faulty, it was not a branded one, and on resting using multimeter had no output resistance on OHM test.
I bought a bosch replacement, (pictured for part no) as the Vw Orional was £90. For Pearce of mind at least say if you can't get something good quality/ OME I would expect a the VW one would at least put mine at rest.
Still not sure why the sensor would fail, but VW specialist advice was that the hub needed chnaging, which I had one priced up and was ready to take on the job as from Vw a genuine part was £203 compared to the copy which was £300... nice surprise. But if doesn't need done that is last step on ladder.
Hope this info can help someone else if they have same problem, as I found info and support did for me. Th am you again:)
