2023 Ocean leaking roof fabric

I ordered a T6.1 version to avoid the teething problems that might come with a new model, ‘proven platform’ I thought. This thread gets more and more depressing.
 
Anyone getting their bellows changed should check that the mattress and the roof liner of the roof are not watermarked. I’ve seen bad stains on the roof liner where the bellows had not dried out before closing the roof.
 
When I get back off this Switzerland tour in two more weeks, I’ll be rejecting the vehicle and getting my money back.
Only had it two weeks, and I’d be sad to say it’s ruined my holiday.
Constant worry about water dripping on my head during the night from the tailgate, the poptop losing pressure and coming down on my kids , and it also leaking.
So the least of my worries is spraying some fabrisil on the canvas
That’s appalling . However they are fixable issues via warranty and the Cali is still pretty much an unmatched vehicle in this sector. It’s nothing that can’t be fixed. I am staying positive as it’s still the vehicle I want.

I plan on trawling through the numerous leaky roof / tailgate posts on Monday to pull together one lost of those having problems. Hopefully we can then use the list to collectively ask VW customer services what the next steps are to resolve the issue(s).
 
I thought you had to give the manufacturer the opportunity to fix the issues before lemon laws apply.
No under UK consumer law its either Repair, Replacement or money back. It is only complicated as you have different rights for items custom build or purchased in person vs over the internet. Most car dealers will go with repair because of the value of the vehicle, But you need to be strong...

They won’t fob me off mate, I’ve rejected. A vehicle before and I’ll certainly do it again. It’s not fit for purpose , it’s a motor caravan on the log book and isn’t made to be one. It’s that plain and simple. I bought a campervan to use it as one, and I can’t.

I have the same issue. I think it just needs to be adjusted and brought out a little further away from its mounting point. That should create a tighter seal and prevent ingress.

I had a scan through your link. There is one person who is on their third set of bellows since March (user: roibusch). It seems they now have the version with the ‘C’ suffix for the last couple of weeks and report that the bellows no longer leak at the front, and do drain correctly.

They won’t fob me off mate, I’ve rejected. A vehicle before and I’ll certainly do it again. It’s not fit for purpose , it’s a motor caravan on the log book and isn’t made to be one. It’s that plain and simple. I bought a campervan to use it as one, and I can’t.
If you are rejecting it - you need to get a shift on, your right to reject without giving them a chance to repair runs out next Sunday. You said you were back in two weeks, that will be too late.
 
As some members maybe aware I’m treading water as others are, don’t know if this has been mentioned but do the red and blue bellows leak from the same build period ?
Mine are blue and they leak.
 
Right down the offside as well, matress was soaked the 300mm on side complete length
When my front seam leaked the water ran down the side and under the mattress on one side as the van was slightly leaning to the left. The side was not leaking though, the water had run down there from the front seam leaking.

You have to go to whoever sold you the vehicle and give them the opportunity to fix the vehicle. If they can’t fix it the you can reject it. You can’t just reject it. That’s why it’s imperative to notify the dealer who sold you the vehicle of the issues, not a different dealer. Otherwise you’re not giving them the chance to fix it. Consumer rights on rejecting a vehicle are here:

That’s why it’s imperative to notify the dealer who sold you the vehicle of the issues, not a different dealer. Otherwise you’re not giving them the chance to fix it. As I understand it you still have the right to reject after 30 days, but it becomes final right to reject up to 6 months and the rules change. I believe the time limit applies from when you notify the dealer, not when they investigate it. So provided you’ve emailed them to let them know then they’ve been notified. You don’t need to be in the country to do this of course. I listen to Dean Dunham a lot and this sort of stuff comes up frequently, but I’m relying on my memory (not great) so trying to find the relevant references instead that explain it.

If this is correct, which I believe it is, then anyone who bought through Eurovans is wasting time by not going directly back to Eurovans. No other dealer has this legal obligation.

In the first 30 days you don’t need to give them the chance to repair. Hence my earlier comment - From other posts I understand they took delivery on 8th July.

A major factor on the dealers side is how good a deal was done on the purchase, if bought with a decent discount the dealer may welcome the van back as they can pass it on for a small profit.

Ah ok, didn’t realise delivery was so recently.

Yes, legal obligations vs what the dealer is willing to offer may well be different, and almost certainly if there is profit in it I would say.

I understand they have to attempt to fix the issues. But let’s be honest we all know they can’t fix the pop top leaks and it’s not fit for purpose.

I don’t know, we’ll have to wait and see. My dealer has told me they will fit new bellows to mine once they have become available. If they do this and the new bellows don’t leak I’ll be extremely happy. Without this though I agree it’s not fit for purpose. Everything else about our Cali is superb though so fingers crossed.

Someone on the other forum has had a new improved bellows fitted that doesn’t leak.
As a fix there’s always the option of the previous version of the bellows.

How new are they? And what’s the difference ?
Mine had a build date of may I believe .. so what have they done since then?

I wonder if there are stocks of the old bellows anywhere? Or if they used them all up before they started installing the new version.
 
Sorry I have not read through this entire thread, but in case it has not been mentioned. VW had refined the earlier single skin canvas design until it was very strong and waterproof, but it was difficult for VW to get the sizing when open fit exactly right, sometimes causing over tension and the canvas pulling off the rail at some point. The new double skin canvas is more flexible to overcome this fit and tension issue, but it seems VW have yet to perfect its watertight properties in 100% of cases.
