Cycling Mikey

After flattening Cycling Mikey first.
I don't think she wanted to, she'd been caught with her fingers in the cookie jar but was doing that uniquely motorist thing of refusing to back down.. how people change when they get behind the wheel. Surprised at some of the attitudes on here btw but I guess it's a motorists' forum after all, I doubt he gets much love from the likes of pistonheads either.

I've sent 2 sets of video to the police of me (cycling) nearly being killed by close passers at high speed. Zero acknowledgement, response or action.

The only action that will be taken is when I actually am killed
The standard outlook is that the best case scenario is: the driver gets a knock on the door and it's on record, so if it happens again.... but there absolutely should be a response of some sort. Maybe drop Mikey a line for some advice!

I'm a cyclist and a runner and had a few instances when I have been the victim of incredibly poor driving including one motorhome driver who clipped my elbow squeezing past me as I was running past a queue of parked traffic. I have no love for greedy, selfish driving especially when it endangers others. I do not object at all to anyone videoing such behaviour either, I do frequently, although I do not run with a video camera so do not capture the countless times I have almost become a victim of selfish, ignorant cyclists.

I do object though to people creating self-indulgent entertainment out of it. Sadly vigilante action creates an environment that easily gives way to trial by social media.

Most police forces in this country publish details of action taken by dash cam or other camera evidence. They do not always notify the complainant when action is taken. They certainly did not notify me when I uploaded a video to West Midlands police but I found out later they had taken action.

For balance, let's mention the selfish ignorant runners/walkers with headphones who I've had countless issues with as they jump like crazed things when passed by me frantically ringing a bell.

In fact let's just accept that selfish/ignorant applies to all spectrums probably equally.Having said that I believe his motives are to make the roads safer not to grow/monetise a social media presence. Long may he staff Gandalf corner.

Absolutely this, although some groups are more lethal than others.

I'm a walker, runner, cyclist, motorcyclist and driver so really not sure where to direct my ire sometimes ;)

Do you never go swimming?

NO!!!

WE are only just recovering from the last cyclists v walkers/runners/mobility scooter riders debate :D

Yes, my main source of abuse as a cyclist is by people objecting to me ringing my bell as they perambulate dreamily into my path whilst engaging intensly with someone on the phone.

Ive stopped using my bell.
The majority of people can’t hear them over their EarPods…

Don’t ring the bell, they always jump in the wrong direction. Safer to just go round them safely in silence.

When I had Geraldine, My iron Pashley sovereign princess (sounds like an oil-leaking BL car) I never really noticed pedestrians, they were often moving faster than me.

My recent cycling renaissance though has discovered the dreamland earphone-wearing into mobile jabbering pedestrian zombie who is totally unaware of whether they are dreamily drifting into a plodding cyclist or a 40 ton truck.

How the species survive is beyond me.

There’s nothing selfish about going for a run wearing headphones. As a cyclist I think it’s my responsibility to slow down if necessary and wait until safe to pass.

I’d consider it selfish if they were using speakers instead of headphones, imposing their music choices on people who want a bit of peace.

I watch and enjoy his youtube clips. I am a cyclist and appreciate the good work he does. I’m not so sure about some of his antics but generally I support was he does. He does seem to prove how people change “at the wheel” and become irresponsible and very defensive of their dubious actions.

A bit of a sweeping statement! Yes a few may do but not the majority anyway the same can be said about all road users including cyclists.

The unfortunate thing is with this idiotic woman, she is so arrogant/retarded/self opinionated/moronic that this episode will only make her do it all the more, so she can continue, in her own world, believing she is in the right.

highlighting that we have to move away from entitled car culture. If it’s seen as a reasonable outcome that someone will assault him for either holding them up or filming them breaking the law, something is very broken.

It would be interesting to see what a cyclists reaction would be if there was a similar self appointed guardian of the pavement (pedestrian) confronting and filming cyclists who flout the law. Much the same I guess.

We don't know this woman and are seeing her for only a few minutes when she's not at her best. We all suspect, but don't really know for certain, that her intent was to cut the queue as opposed to a genuine mistake. We have all done moves that we regret and may never do again but any observer who only sees that time slice will judge us as an a**h**** forever.

But let's assume the worst. If you had come across the scene and stopped the woman, perhaps helping her back into the traffic queue, you would have achieved the desired effect and would have been a hero.

This Mikey person on the other hand is not a hero. He has history. He deliberately seeks out confrontations and works to prolong them for as long as possible in order to monetise his youtube account.

Pure whataboutery. Let’s compare numbers of pedestrians KSI by cyclists versus drivers. Or look at the reasons that people don’t or won’t cycle on the road.
