What have you bought for your Cali today :-)

Kampa Geyser water heater - although reading the news today and about holidays it might just be used for washing the dog!

Fitted my Fuel Angel but it was a real pain. The assembly consists of a metal component that fits into the filler pipe and a captive black plastic threaded component that screws in to lock it in place. The latter is supposed to freely rotate when assembling but mine didn’t so lining up the TOP marker had to be done blind. I’ve refuelled and it all seems OK but I have a niggling worry that it may not be seated correctly even though it’s fully tightened. I’m keeping an eye on it for any leaks and have emailed the supplier to flag the problem.
Anybody else had an issue?

I was going to ask what a fuel angel is and when I found out via Google I wondered if such a thing is really needed...and then I saw a post back on this forum from WelshGas (of course) about when abroad once he left the fuel filling to an (inattentive) attendant.

it is 1 in a million chance. You have to travel first to a country where there is an attendant that refuels for you IF you let them do that. Italy is a good example. Even then you would have to refuel during normal business hours, 8-12 and 14-18. Outside business hours you have to refuel yourself and pay with credit card or cash at the automated machine as there's nobody there. During business hours you can still choose to park next to a "Self Service" pump and do it yourself. And in any case you can tell them you want to do it yourself.
And even if don't succeed in the above, you'd have to find somebody stupid enough not to be able to read "Diesel" on your fuel cap. That also doesn't excuse you not to check what he's doing.

As I get older I find i’m getting a little more absent minded** and having both petrol and diesel vehicles maybe it’s only a matter of time before I make a mistake. For me a £40 investment in a Fuel Angel is good insurance I think.

** Example: I forgot an item my wife had asked me to get at the supermarket. Bit strange because I can remember every shot I hit in a round of golf :)

Yes I found it was a faff to fit and it took me several goes to get the Top marker to the top. In fact I got it to about 10 degrees to the vertical and thought thats good enough! I also found tightening it a pain because the supplied tool is designed to slip at a certain torque which it does suddenly and unexpectedly. Haven’t tried a fill up yet!

I seem to recall someone in this forum talking about a fuel pump attendant who, after correctly refuelling with diesel started to fill the water tank with diesel too.

I’m sure someone can find the post by searching.

Edit:

That’s was me. In Tunis 2011. What a drag.

I’ve just found the post.

I guess one of those life experiences which is a nightmare at the time but looking back is actually quite funny - after 10 years of being annoyed.

Just trying to find it , can you point me towards it ?

Jeez I was annoyed

I see that the infamous KernowLad offered a few suggestions to my dilemma. Any news of him ?

As I slept in my Cali for 15 months non stop through at least 23 countries....I will keep it come what may, it’s part of me.

Parked outside now, in Abergavenny where I am trapped unable to return to Alcoutim, Portugal.

Just purchased from the club shop the Brandrup iso-TOP MK VI ,it seems a lot of money for what it is but the reviews have convinced me.
I’d be interested to hear how you get along with it once fitted. I was considering this, but the new roof canvass is really heavy, and even without an ISO-TOP, closing the shutter once the roof is down is quite a struggle. Adding extra material could be a bit much.

Ive not fitted mine yet either, it certainly feels a lot tighter for space even without the Isotop than my T5.1 did with an isotop fitted.
The instructions do say to remove the front panel before shutting the roof, I think this might be a necessity rather than just a recomendation.

I am thinking when this cold snap finishes put the heating on get the van as warm as possible then fit the iso top, let’s hope the extra material isn’t a problem at £500

But isn't that something that could be said about any Insurance product. I've paid House Insurance for 50+ years and never claimed. With the Fuel Angel a one off payment of £50 versus a possible bill of £5000. Better value in my opinion.

The heat is only needed for the glue on the velcro to work properly. I will put it on & heat locally with a hair dryer.

Probably already on this thread somewhere but I bought these today on Amazon, now I just need to get the fairy lights and bunting :)

I've been buying a lot of stuff lately but these following 2 are my favourites. A very snazzy electric heater and a mattress topper for a T6.1 both from Campervan bits. The mattress is really well made, very comfy and a lovely soft velvet material, very pleased.

Anybody know if the nozzle on a diesel carry can fits the Fuel Angel?
