Cali booked into vw van centre under warranty as the gas cooker no longer works.
New bottle but no gas flow so either regulator or isolating valve under cooker at fault.
The garage have a gas safe engineer booked to sort problem and have advised that the problem will be fixed including parts by said engineer on the same day.

My question is - Will the engineer have to use VW parts as i dont want any old part used ?

dave and lisa :crazy

The engineer will probably use the parts supplied to VW.

Let me know how you get on.

Our has an intermittent fault, sometimes won't light, I think it's the igniter. Anyway, been booked into the vw dealer for warranty repair 3 times now and 3 times the gas engineer has failed to turn up.

Basically, a gas safe engineer = a plumber and they are (in my experience) extremely un reliable!

Anyway, been waiting 4 months for the dealer to find another one and get the Cali back in to be sorted out. I'm still waiting!

Will be speaking the the head of the service department this week to try and get it resolved, before I take it somewhere else.

Mine will not light sometimes. I think the "sparking end" is quite fickle. For everything to work it has to be bone dry and lots of other conditions also. As I do not have the full list of all those other conditions I rely on old fashioned technology.

As long as gas gets to the burner ring then the Mk1 box of matches works fine.

When it needs to visit a dealer for more things to be done this will be on the list but so far, thankfully, the list is still an item of 1.

Ours is booked in tomorrow. The dealer is replacing the igniter which apparently they can do without the services of a gas safe specialist.

Will post up the outcome and if there is any improvement

On an optimistic note, our van will be four in September and (I'm touching wood here) the gas continues to ignite first time :)

From what i remember when repairing the earth shunt, the hob is a Smev or Smeg, not exactly top of the range but cheap and cheerful.

Not all vw dealers are bad at repairing things, sadly I have encountered a number of incompetent ones over the years - all of whom have smiled whilst charging me significant sums of money.

Even if you are unlucky enough to go to an incompetent one where unsupervised, inexperienced teenagers or incompetent mature adults who should know better hack at your pride and joy, I would be amazed if they used anything other than vw listed parts

Gas all sorted just needed a new regulator which looks exactly the same as the original vw one
so happy days
kettle working again :thumb

Hi guys,
When it comes to gas in a camper/ motorhome or caravan you don't need a gas safe engineer.
Most gas safe engineers do not have the LPG element to their qualifications!
The guys you need are NCC approved caravan engineers. NCC stands for National Caravan Council. I've been an engineer for over ten years, the gas side is all the same, you use a gas safe engineer and he will condem your camper/ motorhome, because gas safe regulations are a lot tougher.
Look on the Approved workshop website and contact your local engineer.
Hope this helps

Yes Rich you are correct unless it is a hire camper/motorhome then a gas safety certificate has to be carried out by a gas safe register engineer.
Ron

Yes I am aware of that, and some caravan engineers have taken the gas safe qualification for that reason.

Had the igniter replaced under warranty last week. Seems to work fine now, but need a weekend away for a proper test.

Just back froma glorious weekend away in Cornwall and I can report that the gas ignitor functioned perfectly first time, every time. So very pleased with the replacement under warranty of the igniter device.
