I'll be picking up my new Cali in a few weeks and will have the VW bike rack fitted as an option. I'll be taking the vehicle abroad for the next 12 months and will probably buy some winter tyres whilst out in the Balkans. This means that when I eventually return to the UK I will be bringing an extra set of tyres back with me. My question is do you think a VW Rack would hold the weight of 4 tyres or maybe rig them up on a roof rack?

Of course.....if it will hold several bikes it will certainly hold four tyres......

Obvious I suppose...maybe I'll keep the spare set of rims on. Thanks!

If you get them now, they'll be at least a year old before you get to use them and they only have a limited shelf life. I got mine online, they were 2013 production and good value. I made sure I got the M&S plus Snow Flake symbol so they are good across the whole of Europe. I also got some nearly new steel wheels from a VW conversion specialist.

I'd wait until later this year.

Andy.

Thanks Andy - yes my plan is to get them when the snow comes here in November, this past winter in the Balkans was crazy hardly any snow and virtually no rain. I have had my UK 4 x 4 here for a while and during a period of snow put on winter tyres for the first time. The difference in road holding was remarkable - never had winter tyres before but now convinced they are the answer (in winter of course)
