VW bike rack disassembly

Don’t forget this is a bike rack and not a vehicle about to be launched into space. If you could find them the right size anything to do with aerospace or aircraft is going to probably cost more than the rack. How do I know? I worked on jet engines at Roll Royce. Everything has to be coded so it can be traced back to the person that made it.
You could always contact the manufacturer and ask then what they use. You could say that a couple of the rivets have come loose.

Pop rivets cost pence and used in their billions.

Pop Rivets used in aero are produced by a manufacturer whomhas specifically been accreditation for the manufacture and supply of parts for use under CAA license,
parts which require prior rigorous testing of both the manufacturers process repeatability, quality control and batch traceability To name a few.

My reference to aerospace refers to the material used, in particular the tensile and shear strength of a given product and the quality of a repeat process, which to all intense and purposes is the same product as Rolls Royce would use,
the Exact same part is readily available from many Many many suppliers.

Yes it is fair to say that if used in an Aerospace environment, which are subject to CAA approval, you would need to show the full traceability of the part (by law) for obvious reasons.

do you think that manufacturers amend their process for a specific batch of Rivets and only produce the exact number Rolly Royce of another CAA approved customer requires

No of course not

the Rivets that will end up in use under CAA license approval will be batch tested to Provide the required provenance and traceability as you mention (that is required in Aero space use) those pop rivets will be produced in exactly the same way, with exactly the same materials as Non approved parts,
that is where the additional costs comes from for parts used by Rolls Royce, they are paying for the highly expensive traceability element.

you can buy the exact same pop rivet that rolls Royce use, of the same quality as used by Rolls Royce without the paperwork required (by CAA) for a fraction of the price, simply by buying “Aerospace“ quality Pop Rivets from exactly the same sellers or numerous other outlets whom buy the “non approved “ but identical product!

But you would know that having worked for Rolls Royce
