Storage locker latch

Can anyone help with the storage locker latch and how it should work.....We have had our van for three weeks and I am sure that initially if you pushed the central round part of the latch the lid automatically started to rise up. Now it remains horizontal until lifted. Perhaps I am wrong but any help would be really great. Thanks very much.

Assume you are talking about the box in the 2 seater bench Beach. Its sounds normal to me. The central button releases the catch but the gas struts inside only take over when the lid has been lifted about 20cm, they will then hold the lid open.

The storage latch on mine gets stuck sometimes.
