My 2012 Cali is booked in for a major service tomorrow at Caffyns. They have quoted £369

I had a service a year ago at 25800 miles, when I bought it

The Cali has now done 36000 approx.

The Cali dash says service required now (in fact 500 miles ago)

The VW official website says:

Minor Service
Our minor service will help prevent any little problems turning into big ones. The recommended service interval is every 12 months or 10,000 miles (whichever comes first).

Prices from: £164 for models up to and including 2.0 litre engines
Major Service
The recommended service interval is every 24 months or 20,000 miles (whichever comes first).
Prices from: £329 for models up to and including 2.0 litre engines

Should I go for major or minor?

I say it depends on the history, was it Major or Minor last year?

Are those quoted prices for cars or commercials?

I think it was minor last year and the prices I listed, I believe are cars.

So have I been hoist by my own petard?

Last year it had a full PDI, MoT, and service

I would go for major and also check when the brake fluid was last changed.

Your service book should have all services recorded in it.

If the services have been done by a VW dealer Caffyns will have access to the record of them on their national VW computer system.

Clearly if any have been done by an independent VW specialist, then these won’t be in the system.
