One of the reasons we bought a Cali was to extend the camping season, so have the topper and insulating screens and now considering going away next weekend. The biggest challenge seems to be finding somewhere to stay. Everywhere I can find is shut until March, has anyone got any recommendations for sites open this time of year within a couple of hours of Swindon, we where particularly interested in Lyme Regis because the kids are dino mad at the moment, but any suggestions welcomed.

Thanks

It is frustrating being all year/weather campers!

UKcampsite http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/results.asp?county=Dorset&availability=on is great for searching for sites open 'out of season'

They list a few that may work for you in Dorset:

http://theruralretreatcampsite.co.uk/
http://www.crabbsbluntshayfarm.co.uk/
http://www.meadowviewcaravanpark.co.uk/index.html

This site also has a list of sites open all year - http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/articles/view.asp?id=248

Some of the information on ukcampsite may not be up to date so it is worth double checking!

Pitchup is useful too - http://www.pitchup.com/motorhomes/E...set&arrive=2014-01-24&type=10&availability=on

I have just returned from Cornwall stopping over in Dorset on the way.

I stopped here, between Bridport and Blandford forum.

http://trueloversknot.co.uk

It is a certificated site with the campingandcaravanning club although I don't think they are that fussy whether you are a member or knot (pun intended)…

The camping field is at the end of the car park, hardstanding available, water and CDP point, toilet, best of all pub attached. Easy access to the A31 and if you need anything urgently, as I needed a hook up cable, there is a caravan accessory shop a mile away on the A31.

It was £15 a night but then you get 15% off anything that you spend in the pub/restaurant which could make the stopover quite cheap.

Looks a good stopover Jen, depending on how much wine you drink -15% you can almost camp free ;)

They ended up owing me money :D

Thanks everyone,

I now have http://theruralretreatcampsite.co.uk/ booked - I think we will be the only ones there according to the owner, but she seemed really nice and friendly and the reviews are great. I will let everyone know how we get on - fingers crossed for the weather!
