Good evening,
Has anyone has their VW campervan services at the VW garage in York (JCT600)? If so I’d be very interested to know what you’re experience was (good or bad) I’ve just had a quote for my second service & they have also advised / suggested some other area that need to be serviced which was helpful of them, however some of their pricing seems rather steep! Have you had experience of other VW garages in Yorkshire, eg Scarborough etc? TIA. Claire

Generally VW main dealer costs are set prices. The main variable around the country is the labour costs. Reality is all main dealers are steep. When I use them I use them for the stuff I have too and take their report and do the rest myself. My last service (a Tiguan) I was quoted over 120 quid for 3 wiper blades, did the lot myself for 30 with OEM blades. Tyres I shopped about for.

For servicing, if you can, try and get the set price over 2 or 3 years deals. Then, like I say, shop around for the rest. For warranties you only have to prove any work was done and parts are to OEM standards. You don’t legally have to use them for your warranty to remain viable.

Only have experience of the JCT600 van centre in Sheffield. Seem to know about Calis, and it was easy to get an appointment as they’re doing night shifts to clear a backlog.
Tend to use dealer workshops for service and fault finding.
I’d never ask a dealer to replace standard items such as tyres as they’re always around 50% more cost than a tyre specialist.

I had my Beach serviced at York during covid as part of the service plan.

I asked them how up they were on Californias (ie. Had a problem with camping seats) and they said you're best going to the Hull branch. Don't think Californias are their thing.

Saying that the new Coast is booked in next week but just to get the heater remote working. Couldn't be bothered to drive miles for that type of fix.

Hoping to get this one serviced at Liverpool this time. They know their beans!

Good luck

JCT Sheffield or Hull are where you want to be headed in South Yorkshire, have had good experiences with both our vans at Sheffield for service, less so for sales though, so we ended up buying from Breeze Poole. Bit of a drive mind you…

We always have used the VWVC near Chain Bar, on the M62. They have always been very fair and done a good job.

I have often used JCT600 in York. Yes - main dealer prices but they have always been friendly, helpful and done good work. This includes Cali-specific diagnosis/fix work on the roof hydraulics which fixed our problem 100% and was done perfectly (included bellows replacement etc). This was a few years ago now, but they did seem to have a technician who knew the Cali well then.

But people move and if they have someone more specialist at another dealership, then it seems good to let you know that.

We use JCT Hull, full of knowledgeable and helpful staff with a special California technician, cannot fault their service over the past 42 months and for extra peace of mind have purchased the extended warranty which was on offer at the time. Good luck wherever you decide

Hi Claire
I live near York but use vw commercial at Hull
Same dealer jct but quoted rices are lower and you can haggle a little
York jct are no longer commercials dealers
Sheffield jct in my experience isn’t to be recommended

If your Cali is out of warranty? If it is and you dont mind using a non VW franchised garage I can defkntely recommend Autotechnica on the west side of Hull for all base vehicle servicing and repairs. Andy was a VW master techician before setting up his own business and he is very knowledgable and provides a great service. We had a T5 Cali from 2008 to 2015 and for the final 3 yrs took it there. Their service rates were very reasonabe and they fixed a few problems at minimal cost. I got the impression they liked the novelty of working on the Cali. I remember him fixing the internal drvers door latch for about £20 in 10 minute intrvals as he manned the main desk. Obviously hed removed the door panel from the van to allow him to work on it. It was still going strong 2 yrs later. VW wanted to fit a new panel.

Hi Geoff, any particular reason not to recommend JCT at Sheffield? I have them as my nearest centre for servicing Etc.

No one there with specific Calli knowledge
I had a fridge problem which they said was not under vw warranty despite only being six months old
Took the van to hull and new fridge ordered and fitted in three days
Oil service under £180
My experience is therefore good

Ok I see. I took my Ocean there for an issue with the water tank drain, and it was sorted within 30 minutes. Chatting to the technician, he said he’d seen a few vans with the same fault, so I’m assuming they get Cali’s through. From the forecourt, they’re selling a fair few. I’ll be asking before getting the first service though. Hull isn’t an attractive travel option, so our backup would be either Leicester or Liverpool.

Sorry - that's not correct. They have a master tech with specific California knowledge who has serviced both our previous T6 Beach, and now our 6.1 Coast. The service department there is very helpful in our experience (past 4 years, as recent as last week).

Glad you had a good experience
Mine not so

Sorry, I was referring to the bit where you stated that there was no-one there specific Cali knowledge - there is, the chap's been there for 26 years...

Think I met the same guy, and while our issue was quite minor, he did give me confidence he knew what he was on about.
