So we have a caddy maxi right now with a roof tent looking to gain insight into owning a VW California.

Yes there are plenty of things to consider. Serious ones, like dsg or manual, 150 / 199/ 204 ps , 18" or 17" wheels. To me, colour is important, I don't want her colour to clash with my hair, so she's got to be grey!

I like your logic! Starting small and working up is always a good plan

Lots of good info and tips on the forum. Have in mind everyone’s views are personal / different, so you’ll see lots of discussion over things like engine size and spec. At least you’ll have opportunity to chat to people on sites and look at their vans. Once You’ve decided on your basic spec, if you can, try and hire a van like it for a few days - we did that and it really helped.
