Hello all, when sitting under the wind out awning of an evening is it better to use a 12v light or is the internal Cali lighting strong enough ?

I find the internal light is strong enough to read a Kindle/book by. But I also have a look alike Hurricane/paraffin light that is in fact a battery powered LED light to simulate that old fashioned camping experience.:thumb

Does that attract many flies ?
Do you use citronella products or am I making life difficult ?

Light will attract some insects, but not the nasty ones that sting. A very common misunderstanding. The nasty ones are attracted by scent, so light or no light does not make any difference for them.

The internal lighting is 12v ;)

A roaring campfire is best. :)

Interesting about insects. When we were on holiday in St Lucia all the rooms had a large sitting / balcony area that was totally open with yellow lights . No insects whatsoever at night, even flying around the lights. Even the outside restaurant had the same lights and no insects. Apparently certain colour/wavelengths discourage the insects.

I've got one of these and think it's great, but my family don't agree and have banned me using it.

I certainly wouldn't use it inside the van, but quite olde worldy if you like that sort of thing.

I've got one of those and I've bought one of these to do the cooking on. http://www.coleman.com/product/dual.../3000003655?contextCategory=2020#.VSefj_mUf9s

........and a small one when I just want a cuppa or need an extra burner. http://www.coleman.com/product/spor.../3000000792?contextCategory=2020#.VSegEvmUf9s

I've also got an old red Tilley lamp, but a bit of a faff using meths to get the paraffin up to temperature to start it.

I'm going to follow Snowy's example and try some LED lights in the awning. Just bought the controller - I'm sure the neighbours will love the dynamic effects.:bananadance http://www.trademe.co.nz/electronic...ctronic-components/leds/auction-870982835.htm

This is all terribly complicated. Can't you just get the butler to stand there holding a torch?

That's very helpful - I have a RGB LED strip running along the underside of the upper bed sliding door side - will set to yellow and see what happens next....
