My Cali insurance is due on the first of February, three days before my four score birthday. Last year I paid £325 for UK comprehensive insurance and breakdown cover with a five thousand mile limit. I had shopped around and all of the lower premium quotes were based on the LV Highway insurance as underwriter, one of which I took.
My renewal this year was quoted at £400, maybe not too bad given reports of astronomical increases, but nevertheless I again resorted to comparison sites to see what was available. Surprise; the best combined quote on a like for like basis with last year was £313. The insurer was Ripe insurance and I've never heard of them. They advise that they are ERS, Syndicate 218 at Lloyds; the policy is a specialist motorhome policy and seems to cover all of the points that @WelshGas would have you check before buying.
I am posting this to let others know that in the crazy world of insurance it might be worth getting a quote from this company.
