Winter Campsites

We have spent spent a very enjoyable and relaxing first weekend away in our new Cali, on a site in St Audries Bay North Somerset (not too far from Minehead).

It had never occured to us until last week that there are very few (if any) campsites open over the winter period to allow you to enjoy the Cali - unless that is, you are a member of the Caravvan Club and use their sites.

It tooks us a few evenings of searching to find a site with touring pitches and electric hook up that would take our booking as non CC members.

Something to bear in mind for other new owners if you want to camp during the winter period.

We'll be joining the CC now in order to continue using our much loved new toy over the coming winter months!

Sounds good. We might have a night or two away this weekend but don't want to travel too far from Bristol so will have a look at this.

Camping and Caravaning Club sites are usually open to non-members and have pretty good facilities. Wardens can sometimes a feel a bit strict though, but not always. A lot will close down for the winter, but not all.

Unfortunately they changed the site search functionality last year to not include the date

The UK campsites website - http://ukcampsites.co.uk/ - has a "open all year" tick box in the search. I use this site a lot.

I haven't needed this one yet, but it allows you to search for campsites for the dates you want: http://www.pitchup.com/

no we slept downstairs. we started off with the roof up and the upper bed raised up, but after a couple of hours it got pretty cold from the down drafts, so we left the top up but lowered the bed and closed the hatch. After that we were very snug and didnt need the heating.

I had planned to get a pucer screen for the top and our first trip experience has highlighted that we need to progress this asap as we plan more winter trips away. The only trouble now is that I'm back to the ongoing debate of Pucer vs the internal Brandrup liner :?

I also noted the significant build up of condensation on the inside of the windscreen with the standard VW screen covers. The screen never actually fully cleared and I was forced to wipe the inside of the screen with a towel despite running the demister for ages (its a pet hate wiping the inside of windscreens :!: ) Again we had already planned to go with a Silverscreens external cover so this will also now be brought forward as a more essential accessory
