New engine, seats, bodywork, making the chassis safe again - you wouldn't get any change from the 30K it claims to save you. Be surprised if the insurance hasn't written it off, adding further complications.

It’s listed as cat “S” so not written off, just structural damage. Guess due to the value of the vehicle it is seen as repairable despite what looks like some hefty front end damage.

The insurance company has written it off !! thats why it has a CAT S marker.

If they hadn't written it off they would have authorised repairs & it wouldn't have a marker.

Ive seen far worse repaired & it doesn't look too bad, the front wheels look to be in the right place still & the windscreen aperture looks to be the right shape.

The bodywork bits will be relatively cheap & it doesn't look like anything California specific other than the seat is damaged.

Engine should be fine, might need new mounts.

Theres a huge difference in cost to repair if you are happy with a second hand seat/airbag compared to a new VW supplied item. An insurance company would have factored in cost of a hire car etc when making their decision. I reckon about £5k of parts would see that put right + plenty of labour, so plenty of profit for someone that knows what they are doing.

Could be. You’d really have to drill into the detail and apart from highlighting the options the post does not say enough about the damage. Could have a twisted chassis, cracked block, all manner of nasties. Might not. Insurance would have done the sums before writing off and after RV clearly not worth the OEM repair costs. For someone that knows what they are doing and access to a body shop could work. Do you still have to Q plate these cars or am I just old?

It keeps the original Reg number - but even if you are the original owner you have to apply for a new V5 & that comes back with the Cat S shown on it.
Biggest issue for Cat S is later resale value & getting insurance.

WOW!
In my experience, people who can afford a shiny T6.1 Ocean won't look twice at a Cat S vehicle. The resale value once rebuilt is barely £44,000

Cat S will stay with the vehicle FOREVER. After you have spent £30k on it to get it back to how it should be .....It’s still CAT S.

There’s a YouTube channel ”Chops Garage” (a car dealer down in the West Country). He said he has to discount about 25% off book price if he sells a “cat car” .

Is there really anyone in their right mind that would touch this with a 10’ barge pole. Obviously the insurance company wrote it off and took tenders for the salvage. This garage that bought it has just bid too much for what should have been half the price.
