I tried to find more information on the French gov website(s) but all I could come up with is that you are supposed to be at your 'main residence' between the curfew hours. After a few searches I gave up looking. There was nothing on the French motorway website about not using the car parks to stay, but there are a number of the picnic site aires closed and mainly the full services are open on the Route des Anglais.
Oddly, the UK seems to allow you up to 2 overnight stops when making a long journey.
Anyway, we'll be waiting to see what happens and have shelved the idea (it was only an idea at this stage).
