Hi,

just wondered if anyone could help, having trouble getting my rock and roll bed out and away. I eventually get it back and out but it’s quite a bit of effort - went to the back of the bench seat abs found that this bracket looked wonky wondered if everyone is the same or is this out of shape - any help would be appreciate cheers

It’s unlikely that the wonky bracket is the only cause of your issues operating the bed. Yes it’s a little more tightly bent than in ours but I wouldn’t of thought it would have such a big effect on the beds operation. It may be worth spending some time gaining access to the hinge mechanism on either side of the seat base to give it a good clean and some light lubrication. Years of use and trapped dust and fluff can take their toll on the smooth operation of the bed.

How on earth did that get bent? There was kit on Panzer tanks less robust than the Westy bed!

Which part of the operation is causing issues?

Actually a thought occurred, do make sure the table that stows under the bench seat isn’t jammed! Depending on year of the van, the stowage system varies. The later ones have a habit of dropping out and jamming the bed operation.

Thanks sidepod, I’ve had a look and it seems like the bracket that holds the table in place is getting stuck on the side of the bed I’ve bent this back in and seems to be fine now. I have only just bought the van and think I need to be a bit more forceful with putting it back! Thanks for the advice

do you know if the bracket that seems bent should locate into the hole underneath it?

The bed shouldn’t really require a lot of force to return it to the seated position. If it does, as suggested, a bit of TLC for the mechanism should improve things. The bent bracket in your photo doesn’t locate into the hole, but the plastic should rest lightly on the metal. There’s a bracket on the opposite side of the seat, the plastic bush on that does locate into a slot. I’ll post photos tomorrow when I get chance.

Brilliant thank you for your reply’s that would be great, would you mind sending a pick of the underside of the seat where the table stows, in particular the clasp on the right that holds the table in?

yhanks again! Sure I’ll be asking some more questions in the future

Yeah the clasp on the right is the Achilles heel. I find you have to make sure the table is pushed firmly in so the clasp clicks back over it. It’s still a weak design and can drop out even when pushed home properly. It’s been on my job list to redesign the system.

Some pictures of the 'offending' bracket for you, as they are on our Westy.

This is the one on the opposite side. The plastic bobbin aligns with a slot in the metal.

The Clip holding the table in place. It needs a firm push to be sure it's got a grip.

The table locked firmly in place under the seat.

Hi all,

just wondered if you can buy a replacement clasp, I’ve taken mine off to have a look and it’s pretty bent out of shape and the metal ball doesn’t retract.
Cheers
Tom

Not sure these are too readily available in the UK. You could hunt around eBay or find a specialist breakers. Alternatively - https://www.vwbusshop.de/epages/Gue...=/Shops/GuenzlClassicParts/Products/333000135

German website with a limited range of Westfalia parts available. Not sure how Brexit effects their delivery charges but if could be worth asking if you have no alternatives.

Could you make one of the piece that holds the table on the right side? In my California I do not have it and I would like to buy or manufacture it. Thank you so much

It’s a pretty simple thing so you could probably make it yourself if you have access to the tools and materials. Or you can buy it from - https://www.vwbusshop.de/epages/Gue...=/Shops/GuenzlClassicParts/Products/333000135

Yes, I know the page, and I have already bought some accessories there,
In that web page there are not the pieces that I consult you. for that reason I ask for your help, just a photo to know what the shape of the piece is like

It’s pictured on the website.

Sorry. I understand what you’re after now. I’ll get some more photos when I’m next in my Westy.

Thank you so much,

I have been visiting the web for vw parts for days, such as vwbusshop and vw classic parts and others and I do not see this part or the part number anywhere to continue the search.
I don't have a fence to see it and make it either.

Thank you very much for the help .

It can be a time consuming task. What model and year of a California do you have?

I’m not sure how useful this is but the part numbers for what you’re looking for are - 701 070 213A (number 30 on the diagram, spring clip) and 701 070 201F (number 29 on the diagram, retainer bracket). I had a quick search with no luck, if you’re in Europe you might have more success.
