Removing sliding door trim

Our interior sliding door handle has ceased to work so I need to get the trim off to investigate.
Any tips on removing the trim? I guess it just pulls off somehow.
 
Got the trim off eventually. Once all the buttons are undone it has to be pulled outwards away from the window as there are more clips under the trim there.

Has anyone changed the lock? No obvious signs of damage so I guess the lock is broken internally. It looks relatively straightforward, just worried about getting the correct one.

Well I got the lock off but it's a sealed unit so no way of getting into it without destroying it. Can't find a sensible price on the net for a new one so it's now booked in at our local VW specialist to have it done.
£300 that I wasn't expecting. It really annoys me you can't take things apart anymore to fix them.
Dealer wanted £114 for a diagnostic before they could even price it up. Pointed out to them that it's nothing electrical but they refused to even have a guess at the cost. Complete ripoff.

No it's the actual lock mechanism which isnt shown. Seems there are quite a few variations and to add to the confusion the part numbers have changed. Thanks for the info though.
 
Mine cost about £135 from memory just for parts on ebay. There are loads of different versions & I needed to give the chassis number to get the correct one.
It is a bit of a fiddly job to do & get it wrong & you can end up with the door stuck shut.
 
Our local VW specialist did it for £240 in the end. VW wanted £166 +VAT for the part sp it was a no brainer really. He says they do two or three a week generally. It seems that the plastic bits on the end of the rotating rod wear and thats it. No door opening from the inside.

Am I right in thinking that you had a fix as before you could not open the siding door from inside and now it is OK? I ask as we have a intermitted fault where the door opens OK from outside but sometimes will not open from inside. We are sure it is not due to child lock so it seems it maybe ware and tear on the plastic bit. Am I right?

It looks like your van maybe similar to ours a blue T5 ours is 5 years old.

Yes that's correct. Couldn't open the sliding door from the inside so yes you may have the same problem.
