Off to Scotland today for a week, first big trip away, driving from midlands will end up in Skye. Can any one recommend any app that show camper friendly pubs, or recommend any good stops. Thank you

Try www.searchforsites.co.uk
Type in a destination and it will show a map with different icons for the types of site including a tankard icon for pubs
You then click that icon to get detail, and any reviews

Thats a good tip, I typed it on my iPhone browser and got a notification that there is also an app. The app requires you to register though, so I'll try that when I have more time. :thumb

Or you can try the 'reverse engineered' approach and find a pub you like the look of, then ask them if you can overnight in their car park if you're eating with them. We've never found one that's said no (although there's bound to be a first time I guess...).

Oh and have a great time in Scotland

I downloaded the searchforsites app. After a while it refuses to do anything unless you subscribe. I'm happy to accept limited functionality until I put my hand in my pocket, but it is now useless.

Hence I use the standard web version with no issue.

Oh, mine has too :(. That’s a shame, but unless you have no Internet the web version should suffice!

We did similar trip last April and stayed in campsite on farm in Bunacaimb just south of Mallaig (ferry terminal for Skye). Brilliant spot stone’s throw from beach, part of working farm. On Apple maps it’s not named but easy to find - just 40yds south of two other sites that look equally good called Sunnyside Coft & Portnadoran. Film local Hero filmed in town just up the road (still have red phone box from film!). When on Skye try visit to Isle of Rassay by short car ferry, great whiskey distillery and beautiful quiet walks.

Thank you to every one's suggestions. Got back yesterday and had a great time.Search for sites was good although free trial has run out. we stayed here https://www.the-metal-bridge-inn-carlisle.co.uk/ on the way up, good decent food and basic pub right next to the M6, arrived here http://shielbridgecaravanpark.co.uk/ in the dark to wake up to stunning scenery, basic but cheap with warm showers. Here on the isle of skye http://www.kinloch-campsite.co.uk/ very clean well kept site on the shore, saw seals bobbing in the morning. Next day stayed in the car park of Kinloch Lodge. On the way back down https://www.droversinn.co.uk/ loch Lomond, gem of a pub, stayed in car park and finally the carpark of https://www.the-pheasant.co.uk/ lake district, another lovely pub restaurant/hotel.

I used to stay at the Kinloch campsite. the guy was called Archie I think, the old schoolhouse restaurant served venison wellington with mustard and whisky mash :cheers if you go passed the castle there's a quite carpark by the beach to stay as well.

Elgol, on Skye is a wonderful spot for a night or two. The drive there is fun too.

No pub but there are public conveniences in the village.elgo2.JPG elgo1.JPG

This is the map from my stay on the West Coast last year. It was compiled from the many threads on here and other sources for me to record places we wanted to go. I intended to go back and update it but never go around to it.

Highlights : Red Squirrel, Arisaig, Applecross, Sligachan.

If I remember right Skye doesn't have many campsites, the ones we saw were quite open and exposed, as it was rainy and windy it was pretty 'exciting'.

Sligachan is a great location for a walk, nice restaurant for good food and there is an air type campsite close by.

Hi @NOD

nice pictures -- where were they taken please?
The first one with the fence is the car park of the Drovers Inn at the north of Loch Lomond, the one with the water is Kinloch campsite at Dunvegan and the last one was on the way up in the car park of The Tan hill Inn Yorkshire, the highest pub in Great Britain
