We are heading off to France tonight with nothing booked up so we have a flexible plan. Based on the lousy weather we are probably going to head down to Ile de Re (near La Rochelle) since it is meant to have the most sunshine outside of the Cote D'Azur ! The ACSI campsite we will head for is "Camping La Tour des Prises" which looks good from the reviews. We will stop for a few nights about 3/4 way down near Saumur.

Anyone any experience in Ile de Re Island ? We love cycling and seafood so it seems to tick both boxes !

We went there a couple of years ago (in a tent as it was pre-Cali), and it was very nice. We stayed up towards Saint-Clement.

Saint martin town is lovely - the harbour area is nice and an excellent way to spend an evening out. there are cycle routes everywhere so you should be well covered for that.

La Rochelle is nice too. The kids loved the aquarium.

Thanks Dave. The campsite we are going to is near La Couarde Sur Mer. Is there a decent supermarket on the island or do you have to go to La Rochelle ?

Stayed at La Grainetiere in La Flotte in early April. Accepts ACSI, (very) shaded (more of a woods/ forest setting). Walking distance (20 mins) into La Flotte. Great little market, reasonable selection of restaurants. Small Carrefour supermarket in town. Other supermarkets on island.
Island is flat and covered in cycle routes.

We went there a couple of years ago, stayed at the camping indigo campsite on the island. Very good indeed, the facilities were good, the pool good, kept the kids quiet and overall we enjoyed the island although a little busy, it was august after all

Just be aware if you are looking for beaches that the island has a very extreme tide. One minute the sea is a very long way out and the next it is right in and high. Therefore there aren't many decent beaches. Lots of cycle ways. Yes St Martin is a very pretty old walled town with restaurants around a harbour. There is also a famous light out house on the western tip with a small market You can go up this and it gives you a good view of the island.

Hi
We overnighted in Maronnes, nice beach not crowded in August. There is a motorhome Aire looking over the dunes no loo 5 euros. There are two campsites. The first as we drove in n right as you head to the beach. The second (and the Aire) is keep the water on your left drive about 3/4 mile. There is a miniroundabout just before the campsite and the Aire is on your left it is signposted. the campsite is just over the roundabout.

So the first campsite looked more holiday campish and was full when we tried so can't coment. The second campsite - v basic but freindly helpful staff (cash only). The aire looked fantastic great setting but no toiletshower.

Beach was great
