Hello everyone, new Ocean 6.1 owners here, based in Bristol. We’ve had it for about a month and taken it on a few adventures around the UK. It’s been a steep learning curve; we’ve been stuck in a muddy field, gridlocked on busy single track lanes in Devon and hunkered down in storms in the Lakes. We’ve joined the forum to help us get the most out of our Cali and answer those burning questions, such as - what’s the etiquette when waving at other VW van drivers on the road? What do people do with the wardrobe space to make it more useful? How do you assess a wet field before sinking your wheels into 3 inches of mud? And of course, we’re looking for lots of campsite/pitch recommendations.
Very glad to join the community, thanks for having us.

We wave at any VW camper.

Re wardrobe can recommend Yes Campervan shelves. We have these https://www.yescampervan.co.uk/prod...ean-coast/7?cp=true&sa=true&sbp=false&q=false
which gives more storage, but still allows some hanging space.

In addition to the shelves, these packing cubes are perfect sizes. Buy two different colours for their clothes and yours. Write the contents in marker pen, Bottoms, Tops, Undies, Sports and you are all set.

You'll need two medium, two large as a set.
As recommended by the lovely woman in the shop at Campervanbits, Chesterfield.

We wave at all we see - it's a 50/50 response. TBF we don't see all and sometimes we've passed when someone has waved and feel pants for missing them.

Was better on the NC500, but as a matter of principle we refused to wave at white whales. And that one of them took out our wing mirror.

Thanks for those suggestions. The shelf kit for the wardrobe looks like a great solution for the “chasm of chaos”. The Amazon basics cubes are really useful and we already use them for general travel.

We too feel the guilt of missing a returned wave. Some drivers opt for the lifted finger or fingers from the wheel, others go crazy with the full 2 handed affair, one chap did a Spock style finger split thing. We’ll get the hang of it.

Waves? Yes every time (provided you’re alert). Fist bumps if passing in the lanes around Devon. Had a full flash / horn / wave from the same coloured Ocean today on the A68 near Jedburgh.

Wardrobe - tried bedding rolls, tried clothes bags and clothes without bags. Might try cubes. Whatever you do watch out for the micro switch on the top hinge, and the thin bit of sprung steel acting as the lever arm - easy to bend it if caught.
