This is our planning for our Easter holiday so far - down the right hand side of France - Along the bottom and up the middle via Paris.

https://mapsengine.google.com/map/edit? ... FgjItPaMmk

The tagged sites are ones that I have found that are open and have reasonable reviews on Google / Cool camping etc.

Anyone know any good more campsites, specifically on the south coast.

Cheers

Tony

I see you have Camping De Massereau on your list, we stayed here and it is very expensive for what it is , also the pitches are very close together and the majority are under trees, don't be fooled by the 5 stars like we were. We stayed for four nights in August, it may be a bit better of peak.

Sommières is a nice town though.

Cheers Martin - that one was always 50/50, as it was inland a bit but not far enough inland to be half way to paris :) Surprised it is not good though it appears to be part of the Castiles group, which we have used a couple of times in north France and really liked them.

Top tip Andrez, that looks like a good idea on the way back if we are early for the ferry.

We have just returned from a month away, mostly in Spain, but did use the A75 for both outward and return journeys. Unless you want to stop in one place for several days, we don’t see much point in using expensive campsites for every overnight stop (we are Yorkshire folk), especially as the Cali is designed for independence. If using a ferry, we sleepover on Marine Parade in Dover, using the morning ferry for toilets. Using the Channel Tunnel, we spend the night in the nearby Cite Europe Commercial Centre (Boulevard de Kent) van park and use the Centre toilets and supermarket next morning. A day’s drive via Rouen, Dreux, and Orleans will get you to Bourges where there is a popular and safe Aire on Rue Jean Bouin, with water supply and grey water disposal. A fuel station and supermarket are nearby. The A75 is free from Clermont Ferrand to Beziers apart from the €7.30 toll over the Millau Bridge. By the third night we are ready for a shower and there are plenty of campsites in the Beziers/Narbonne area.

Cheers ron. We are travelling with kids so we will need a few more facilities. We are trying to do a max of 3 to 4 hours driving per day even on the up and down legs, and the kids expect play parks and swimming pools :)

Once the kids dont want to holiday with us any more we will be doing trips like you describe

Can really recommend Les Perron-Beauvineau in Meurville.
We stayed there for a few days in June '12 and there was a trampoline and other playground toys for the kids and a clean toilet/shower block. Their wine is rather good as well.
We would also recommend a trip to the Drappier champagne house in urville nearby, we got a case from them, should have got two, very yummy!

For Beaune, I would recommend the Cent Vignes municipal site. This is a nice little site, just a short stroll from Beaune centre. If you don't want to book in advance, best to arrive in the morning as it fills up quickly late in the day.

Our children enjoyed a tour of the nearby Veuve Ambal bottling plant, and a trip to Chateau Rochepot. The famous Beaune Hospice is also worth a quick look.

Funnily enough, we also stopped at the Drappier cellars and left with a few cases!

Yep we used ACSI - it worked at all but one of our campsites - paid for itself in pretty much before the end of the second stay :)

Worth it for the book, the discount is a massive bonus.

Martin we ignored your advice and stayed at Camping De Massereau, they are not official ACSI partners, but if you show them your card you get a low season rate of 20 Euro (so 30 once we added the kids) - it was 50% full so it was reasonable price and empty - which made it brilliant.

The reason we ignored your advice was because it had an open swimming pool with slides which is rare in early season. However we will be going back for the excellent cycle park and restaurant. You must give it another go in low season.
