Hi to everyone.
I am considering buying a camper van and although I didnt think that I could afford a Calli I have just been offered a friends for a fantastic price. The model is a 2011 180 ps 4 motion with under 50k miles.
However..... he has been told by our local VW dealer that the DPF needs replacing and that they wish to replace the turbo too. He has also had issue with the air con.
Does/ has anyone else had these issues and if so approximately how much did they cost to rectify.
The price of the van is so good that providing these were under £5k to repair I still feel like this is a viable van for me to buy.

Please help

ps I also have a 6 month old daughter and hoped that the rear seats have issofix.

At least you got socks @hotel california ;-)

@kevg Welcome! In my perspective 2011 is a young car and if the garage think they can fix the mishaps and you fell confident, I would not hesitate. The only regret we have, is that we bought ours years too late … would have been perfect with a baby child ;-)

You need to research and understand the engine failure that impacts some of these early 180hp engines. The items mentioned are implicated in bore wear that necessitates a completely new engine in some cases. Tread carefully. New engines are discussed at around £8k+vat.

A search here for 'oil consumption' and CFCA should get you going on the research, and point to an ongoing facebook group.

The DPF is prob contaminated with engine oil passed from a failing turbo. Not the end of the world though, DPFs can be cleaned, the VW dealer won't offer this, they are in the business of selling 'shiny' new parts after all. It's a fairly specialist operation, we have a company up here in Central Scotland, Scotia Bearing Services who offer this service for the whole of Scotland and beyond. With a wee bit of research I'm sure you will find a company down your end of the country offering a similar service. Failing that Scotia's number is 01324 477005, they offer a country wide (UK) collect and return service but I am positive there will be someone down your end. One last bit of advice, main dealers are very much in the business of fitting new bits instead of offering a repair solution. Find yourself an independent motor engineer locally with a good reputation, you will achieve greater value for money utilising their services than using a main dealer. Best of of luck, enjoy your California.
