Does anyone know why the Auto button has two lights on it? Do they relate to either side of the cab?

The only difference we notice is the fan goes up one bar.

I looked in the manual but it glosses over the fact.... :x

I wondered the same thing and think that it sets the power of the fan. On the first setting, left side lit, the fan works at a slower speed - still cools, or recently heats (!), the Cali but at a gentler speed. With the right side lit the fan goes faster so it heats or cools quicker but more aggressively.

I have an XC60 which works in a similar way.
