Hi everyone,
we have just returned from a week away in Dumfries and Galloway, and for the second half of our stay we stayed at Balloch O' Dee. The campsite is located in isolated spot, which is perfect if you are looking for a rural, off-the-grid experience. The site offers a "proper" camping experience. Campfires, grass pitches, loads of space. The showers and toilets are uni-sex, and there are no lights, instead it is lit with candlight which is actually really different.
The site is very kid friendly, all the visitors were very welcoming. There is a pony trekking stable on site, and chickens mix with the campers.
The open location certainly tested us when the wind got up, but the benefits were the amazing views and no light pollution, so when the clouds depart you get a great starry spectacle.
