I’ve had a salesperson state the auxiliary heater runs off the diesel that the engine uses and not the leisure batteries.

Is that correct? I always thought the heater on California’s ran off the leisure batteries.

It is a diesel powered heater and uses the leisure battery power to run the controls, the diesel heaters fuel pump, the in-built fan and heat up the glow plug to initiate ignition on start up.
So the burning of diesel provides the heat source and the leisure batteries power the heater.

Brilliant, thank you

While we’re on the topic, there is an oft quoted statement that “heat immediately” uses the starter battery, hence the time limitations and eventual lock-out until driving. I assume this is to cover when it is being used in ventilate mode and it would be too complicated to have a time-out for ventilate and not the warm setting of heat immediately? On the very rare occasion I’ve used heat immediately for warm air it seems to just use the same heating system as the “heat continuously” setting (which definitely uses the leisure batteries) and it seems unlikely the same heater system is wired to two different batteries!

There are 2 heaters in the Ocean. One is an engine heater which switches on when the temperature is low and helps to heat the engine coolant. The other is the living area heater. Heat immediately and heat continuously uses the living area heater and is powered by the leisure battery.
The engine pre heater uses the starter battery and should never be an issue as the engine is running when it is on.

Yep that's my conclusion, but I assume the "ventilate" function of heat immediately uses the starter battery as it blows air through the dash vents, so I also assume therefore that's why the time-out is in place.

Yes the Ebasto Auxillary coolant heater pre warms the engine coolant when below 7 degrees .

But also blows Hot air to front cab through dash vents and windscreen , so will defrost front screen .

It runs when engine running, but for it work , have go to radio panel , vehicle settings and make SURE SUPPLEMENTRY HEATER BOX IS TICKED .Will ONLY WORK AUTOMATIC IF THIS OPTION IS TICKED IN BOX .

It also uses diseal from fuel tank , same was as Eberspacher heater does .
