Over the last 20 years we overlanded Southern Africa, Malawi, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Namibia, Botswana, Lesotho, Swaziland, Mozambique, Baviaans Kloof, Namakwa, West Coast, etc. etc.
Toyota Hilux was the only 4x4 but as a double cab limited as a camper.
Our dream was a camper with 4x4 as a must.
Over the last year we did some extensive travels with our modified 2018 T6 Cali Beach and so far so good.
Modifications:
Suspesion lift 50mm - had new coils made
Kitchen - gas 3 burner, Basin, Lots of packing space
Running water - pressure pump and 50L tank
Fridge
Awening

That sounds awesome and welcome on board.

Any documented stories/blogs that we can read? Any pictures (I am sure lots and lots :))?

Serious 4x4 sand and rock to arrive at this very secluded 3day camp along the Orange river in Namakwaland.
Namibia just across the river. Had to swim over juts for the hell of it as with covit our boarders are closed.
20`C during the night and 42`C from 10am till 5pm. Deepcyle battery only lasted till abot 12pm assited by 2x50Watt solar pannels during the day insuring cold bears on demand.

One day later we started with a 4 day trip down the Namakwa west coast 4x4 route. Deep deep sand, rain wind and black mussles fresh of the rocks.

Impressed a beach can do that! What tyres are you using? Ours is on standard road tyres and it’s hopeless in mud and wet grass!

Would love to do some of those areas, but the wife who went to school in SA is scared to go back. Her family were white farmers & she has lost a lot of relatives out on the farm over the last 20 years or so & she would need a lot of reassurance about how safe it is to stay off the beaten track.

that sounds fantastic! Do you have any photos of your interior and other modifications?

PIRELLI SCORPION ALL TERRAIN PLUS

Deflated to 1.5 bar

Prefer ETC (traction controle) off for sand driving

Perfectly understandable.
We live on a farm and go to a lot of effort to stay safe. Then the Western Cape is like a country on its own with amazing cops and everything works. Farm murders are a reality and it is a huge scare.
As a couple we travel alone most times and sometimes do not see people for days. We are criminal wise and do not keep fires burning into the night, have pepper spray at hand and do not attach equipment outside the vehicle.
But then we are not going to be kept locked up and would rather enjoy life and nature.
If one of us feel uncomfortable we move on.
Southern Africa is an amazing place te explore. Its wild nature and its friendly people are what makes it work for us.
Criminals are few and far between.
We do not go look for trouble and pray for wisdom and protection as we go.

Do agree with ETC off on sand. In all difficult terrain, really.
But wow, down to 1.5 bar! We never went further than 2.0, were afraid the tyres would run off the flanges if we went lower...
Or are perhaps you using Beadlock rings, like these?

I do use normal fittings. As an experienced 4x4 user I would go down to 1 bar in hot sand and be careful not to fight the steering. Never lost a tyre YET!
