Capt Kirk,
How was the trip you did in 2018 to Croatia? It is one I have been considering undertaking and wondered if you had any advice you could offer...?
Thanks
Ian

We rushed it and wished we had made more stops along the way. It was a great experiance and will do it again. Originally we were going to drop into venice but glad we didnt, and drove up through the lakes instead, for some reason phones data didnt work in italy so if your using them for satnav they didnt work so had to use gps based system instead. Wifi on parkups was very expensive in italy but everywhere else it was fine.
Switzerland was expensive but very scenic and a pleasure to drive, france had best aires and free parkups. Germany was fine and friendly as was most of europe, italy dont know what a queue is. Croatia is cracking, roads good and very modern, easy to get around and great signage. Most speak good english and food really good. Dont be suprised to find ehus spread across sites for long distances as the supply post are only in certain areas. Im just writing as i think so excuse rants. Make sure you find the cheapest outlets for motorway vinets as unscrupulous vendors have been known to fleece motorists. Gas is plentiful and use bottled water. Loads of other stuff but im afraid you'll just have to go and do it, make your own memories and mistakes and then you can tell people your experience's like i do…….and watch the heights in underground car parks. Any thing else pm me.

Hi, we heading on trip in a few weeks time . Landing in Holland-Germany-Austria-Italy-Switzerland-France-Belgium then home. Still planning , but still unsure where we need vignettes for. And where not.Do we need anything for driving in a city . also we have t6.1 but reading different advice whether we need something on headlights. Just thought id ask when i see what an amazing journey you took.Any advice would be great . Gary.

Prices of sites in Croatia seem crazy this year, they have now pegged the currency to the Euro (if not actually joined) and we were seeing €70 per night at some of the larger sites so decided to skip this year.

Most vignettes you can buy online before you travel and do the same for tolls where possible, cheaper and faster.

Vignettes are required in Switzerland and on the Autostrada in Italy. France, Holland, Germany, France and Belgium do not have that requirement. France gets you with their high Peage charges, which are offset by the better fuel savings. .

Vignette for Italy? Do you mean Austria?

thanks everyone.

Don’t worry too much about the vignette of Switzerland. If they want you to have one, believe me, they’ll stop you at the entrance to the motorway and politely collect their 37 CHF.

Hungary, Romania and Bulgaria require vignettes for trunk roads.

In 2018 I spent under 3 hours on Hungarian roads, about 10 minutes on a trunk road.

On my return to the UK I found a fine for not buying a vignette waiting for me. The shortest period you can buy a vignette for is 10 (consecutive) days.
