What have you bought for your Cali today :-)

Oh no! Where from? Now you’ve started something! :D
12volt planet. There were two left in stock.
One now, that the 2nd is with my fuses from post #603 and some trailer spare lights.
I must stop prepping……..
Anybody found a way of getting a gun mount on the California. Was thinking of some bungee cords with the end of a M60D hanging out.

Hi there this looks brilliant. Could you post me as private message the details of the guy who makes these? I would love to order one for our 2022 Ocean. Many rhanks
All the best
If you click on the link I posted in my post, it will take you to the T6 forum & the thread started by the guy who makes them.
his user name is CJW, just post in the thread or drop him a PM & he will respond.

here is the link again

Edit: he can make them with any bespoke wording within reason I think mine is one character short of the maximum he can fit on the badge, but basically you can choose anything you want, he will email you a mock up of the item before he prints it, have a look at the thread for other ideas.

Ordered some Thule level ups and the awning tie down straps, a Ridgemonkey connect XL and that ridiculously over priced Brandrup hanging water filler thing… oh and some entry mats for the door steps, really wanna get some other carpets for inside but can’t bring myself to spend hundreds of pounds on some carpet lol

Ridge Monkey XL - great.

Brandrup water filler - expensive but really handy.

Carpets in a California? Ugh, smelly filth magnets, get a good small doormat, enjoy and look after VW’s hard floor finishes (wash regularly with mild soap), and take shoes off if dirty.

Quite why some people have carpets in many situations escapes me: very English. Cleaner countries and peoples would never have floor finished they cannot wash. Just think of what those carpet harbour. Filth, shedded dried skin, dropped food particles. I could go on …

May = mat?

Four new Michelin 235/55r17 Cross Climate 2s. £640 but with £40 cash back from Michelin when you buy 4. Bargain!

The previous tyres (2016 Goodyear Vecta 4seasons 235s) had only done 11500 miles but had developed cracking all around the sholders. So they had to go. I had intended replacing the wheels and tyres with set of delivery mile Devonports from my dealer. I bought a similar set for a previous Cali. They recently offered me a set with 215s for £500 which is less than the tyres alone would cost. However, when I asked last week they hadn't got a set in stock. Anyway, as I have previously found that the 215s give a harsher ride, I decided to just replace the tyres with 235 all season tyres but not Goodyears again. As luck would have it, Michelin currently have a promotion on until the end of May. Up to £100 cash back if you buy four. £40 on 17" and I believe £100 on 18" and 19". So if you currently need tyres it's not a bad deal. Furthermore , according to all the reviews, Michelin Cross Climate 2s are the DBs.

So, in the end it did cost me £100 more for a set of Michelin 235/55r17 Cross Climate 2s than it would have done for a set of delivery Devonports with 215 van tyres. However, it would have cost me another £30 in fuel to collect them so only £70 difference but for much better tyres. Result!

Cool  I thought the club discount was only for panels fitted by Roger
He does money off the fitting price but also off the cost to buy the panel/an and the other bits and bobs required. Just email him with your foul name and he emails back your code (unique to you).

Yep - I did a DIY install with my panels from Roger and still got the forum VIP discount.

Picked up a couple of Really Useful 64L boxes from Asda £13 each, result!

Bargain. I have just completed my quota of RUB's. 2x 50L for the boot, 2 x5L for the closet, 2 x8L with front opening for the lower cupboard below the hob. They seem very durable, stack securely and can be locked.

I also have similar bike carrier the Thule model.
But I had to purchase today the fiamma bike carrier as an extra, due to parking issues my parents house.
As I am one of the vertically challenged, I lowered the carrier , which makes it more manageable , and takes the bike out of the airstream.
I also purchased an extra number plate as the bike obscures the one mounted normally on the cargo door. I,m very pleased with the result and had no need to drill extra holes. It did require some new shims around the hinges for the carrier.

@Tony hylton Which model was it and how easy was it to set it up at a lower level?

Mine go in the washing machine. They are also rubber backed so no bits of grit, sand, dead skin etc go into the tracks and can't be cleaned.

After much reading and great advice from other members of the forum, I decided to swap to all seasons tyres and went with Michelin Cross Climate 2 in the slightly narrower/larger diameter 235 55 18. Managed to get them with Black Friday discount. They won’t get tested until we go camping this weekend.

Can you just use the 255/45 or the 235/55 on the same wheels?

Yes you can. If you read the (many) threads of the forum, the tyre swap that I have done makes the speedo pretty much 100% accurate (rather than the speedo stating a higher speed than you’re actually doing). You can’t just change to any old size though, they need to be close to the factory spec’d sizes to keep the overall diameter close
