Dealership rang, offered to swap my van! Sanity check please

One thing that strikes me as strange in all this is that you only get a 2yr warranty in the UK. In New Zealand, we get a 5yr/150,000km warranty (whichever comes first), and that includes subsequent owners (ie. not just the person who bought it from the dealer). Lobby your local MP for some decent consumer rights? 2yrs is shameful for a vehicle, especially one in this price range!
I thought 3 years was standard in the UK with a low cost option to extend to 5 years.

It’s a 3yr warranty that can be extended to 5yrs for a cost.

We don’t, it comes with 3 years as standard, & have the option of a All In scheme at £21/ month that extends it including servicing / mot & breakdown cover.

2yrs is normal in Germany
3yrs in brexit Britain
5yrs for you in the Ardern dictatorship :)
 
I suppose my thoughts are.... were you happy with your Coast, does it suit your needs? Are you being given enough time to truly consider what having an Ocean is like? If you were not drooling at the idea of an Ocean, then why swap. Value isn't only in monetary terms, it is what is of value to you?
 
Who is the previous owner? An employee of vw who bought it at a discount and now selling it for list price?
If that's the case it could be a valid offer.
I would check all electrical/camping unit related function first on a t6.1.

auto roofs also on Cabrios have been around for a while, how offen do the fail?
I have a 1997 cabrio the roof still works
 
I keep coming back here hoping to hear why someone might have returned / sold their van after only 300 miles, seems an odd thing to do and is quite interesting.
But all there is is a pointless arguement about roofs instead ... boring.
I don't understand your comment: it's about the difference between coast and ocean, and let that roof be one of the biggest differences. I wouldn't get rid of the coast because enough proponents of a manual roof can no longer order a new one. They have one. Second-hand coasts are very popular here with us; You can buy an ocean both new and second-hand, a coast only second-hand and young ones are desirable. But maybe the OP really want an electro-hydraulic roof. Oh hear me going, I must bore you. Sorry, can’t concentrate me on why that ocean has 300 delivery miles on it.

In the current climate is it not all about the money, this original owner could have ordered 18months or more ago and a lot has changed since then he perhaps can’t afford it now, for me the most important consideration is the cost to change £20k or more I assume? Just wouldn’t be worth it right now if you like the van you have.
 
Could well be one of those “brand new’ speculative private sales from autotrader that’s now realised they are going to struggle to sell quickly so done a deal with the supplying dealer.
 
I'm sorry I am going to have to admit the truth, I used to own it but after 300miles, it didn't matter what buttons I pressed, I couldn't get the roof to raise so I returned it ;-)

(Disclaimer, that is a joke, I stand for equal rights for all types of roof)
 
We bought ours immediately as a pre registered vehicle. The dealer had to be on the V5 as the keeper for our first three months of ownership.
Sounds like they registered it as a demo or showroom model where they are obliged to “keep” it for at least 3 months.

Always been 3 yrs in the UK. Something the EU declined to copy/implement.

I don't know anything about the money, the value or the resell value. I don't care either. That's not what my post is about at all. Just about how desirable for some a manual roof is. Very strange that a dealer asks one to trade in their coast for something that can still be bought both new and second-hand in different ages, isn't it? You would almost think that it is about the manual roof… :oops: :D

He was going to sell it privately for a better price, but time wasn't on his side.
He read all the posts on here about electric roofs and was all Doom & Gloom.
 
So yesterday I get a call from the dealership which went something like:

"we note that your van is nearing the end of it's warrently (approx 20 months old).
would you like to swap your van?"

Hadn't been thinking about this at all but thought I'd entertain, the salesman continued:

"new orders are currently taking 12 months, but we do have a vehicle in stock we can offer you"

Some more back and fore and i'm going to see it tomorrow with possibly exchanging on the same day, details:

My van: 2020 coast (18k miles on the clock, basic spec with parking sensors and reverse camera)
New van: 2022 ocean (300 (delivery) miles on the clock, decent spec with discovery pro upgrade, shower connection etc)

Here's the thing, they've offered a part exchange on my van that exceeds the price I paid for it by about 2k,

Would I be silly to turn this down if the van checks out (i will be test driving etc)
Any opinions greatly appreciated, I am very inexperienced in the world of buying/selling vehicles.
Tell them that you may have a cash buyer for your van so how much will they discount the Ocean by. Take these numbers and speak with other dealers, you maybe able to sell your van to another dealer at a high price and get a discount on your new van.
