Tow out using tow bar

Got stuck in car park on grass in Cornwall yesterday. Eventually got out using mats. In future is it safe to pull out using VW fit to bar on the back, had offer from 4x4 owner?

We got stuck in some soft ground last year but we're only 2 meters from a hard surface. The RAC pulled us off the soft ground onto the road. I asked the RAC man the same question and he said it was ok.

Tow bar rating and strength

I have a 2012 T 5.1 california with a factory fitted removable towbar. Does anybody know the rating of the towbar (what weight it can pull) and more importantly, can the towbar be used for recovery (by which I mean pulling out of the mud et cetera rather than recovery onto a flatbed truck or...

If you just need a gentle pull it will be fine. Just nothing using snatch straps etc.
