T6 - REMOVING THE AWNING - screw on top

I managed to remove my awning, I had to move the arm fixings because the 2 screws were behind it.
I also managed to remove the 2 plates that support the awning. I replaced the 2 x 3 screws that were originally there. They sank in without forcing and do not seem to touch the roof. Why does the manual say to replace them with 5mm shorter versions?

I use tap washers to make the bolt think it is still bolting something to the roof which stops any chance of going too deep and by nipping up just enough to act as a lock washers.
I access the screws behind the arms by opening the awning. I will have to try moving the arm fixings to get to them next time. Would need to mark the position before moving them I’d guess.

the screw I use on the top has a a screw thread of 1,5cm (0,6 inch) o
