T5 Aircon woes.

Hi all. I have a 2008 Cali, and the aircon has been intermittent for some time. So with a holiday to Europe fast approaching, I decided to get it fixed. A local company degassed it first - £90 - then replaced the sensor - £200 - then replaced some kind of valve - £200. After each visit the engineer left saying that should do it. But it didn’t. He actually admitted defeat after the final £200 and his parting shot was ‘well, just hope it isn’t hot…’. So I’m £500 out of pocket and no further forward. He seems to think it’s the compressor… but won’t commit. The aircon comes on - and is really cold. It can stay on for a random amount of time. But it’s currently starting to blow warm air again after 5 or 10 minutes. It can then come back on if you leave it blowing - or can also come back in if you do the old switch off / wait / switch on routine. But there’s no solid pattern. Just wondered if anybody had the same issues on a T5 Cali and managed to fix it? Ours is 2008. Thanks.

OK Thanks. He replaced the pressure sensor on the second visit...

I have a 2007 cali with similar issue, air con blows warm air after short period of working properly. So far, after various visits to vw specialist over 2 years, have had system regassed, condenser, compressor and pressure sensor and sensor in dash replaced but no nearer to a solution. Any possible solutions gratefully received!

My 2008 Golf air con went around 2016. I was told that around 2008 VW had fitted all Golfs with a ‘dry’ (no oil?) system and that the air conditioning default was On. The chap said this was a known error and that they usually lasted 5 years so I was lucky with 8. I don’t know if VW we’re doing the same with Californias but to turn the air con off you pressed Econ which is the same Econ button as in my 2008 Cali. So perhaps same system.

I think it was the compressor he changed for about £500. Probably including re-gassing. Worth googling.

Curiously my 2008 Cali is fine.

We have a 2009 cali and have suffered too. 2 days before going to Europe last year having read some posts on here I had it regassed and asked him to replace the pressure sensor. It worked fine for the trip. It started off a bit dicky this summer but now seems to have settled down either from the off or from the first into neutral, coast, turn off, turn on manoeuvre. It may just be that with the UK temperatures being apologetically low at present the air con isn't being asked to work too hard.

Just back from a 3 week euro trip, and the £500 I spent on the zircon made no difference at all. It was intermittent with no apparent pattern. We've had it re-gassed, pressure sensor changed, and another part changed, but no success after 3 visits from the 'zircon specialist'... I'm reluctant to spend any more money on it at the moment. Another post in the forum reported success with changing the pressure sensor, but this hasn't worked for us unfortunately. Happy to keep posting and replying if it gets me or anyone else closer to a fix...
