Thinking of getting away this weekend and have never been to Abersoch. Does anyone know of a good site please that they would recommend?

Hi Dave, there a number of sites on the unclassified roads along the coast near Abersoch and I think you should be able to get in one of those without booking; some of them have fantastic views so study the OS map to get an idea; the Landranger series show the positions of many of them.

Abersoch itself is quite commercialised and the main (camp) site is (or was) part of The Warren complex, mainly a holiday lodge park; if that floats your boat.

Further along, Aberdaron has a number of scenic sites, one in particular being at the top of the hill on the coast road immediately east of the village. The last time I stayed there you just pitched up and the site owner came round later to collect the camp fee - free & easy. Great area for walking.

The Lleyn Peninsula in general is a very good place to visit on a bank holiday because it never gets crowded. It's one of my favourite places.

While in the area, be sure to pay a visit to Porth-y-Nant on the north coast near Nefyn; you won't believe the road down to it - have a look at this vid I did a few years ago, the approaches start at about 5 minutes in:-

Wow! What a great reply Colin, thankyou. Have just watched the video which was amazing x. Makes us feel better now about just heading off without having booked anything.

We'll be in N Wales somewhere this weekend so post up where you get to and we'll look out for you!

Take a look at the Nant-y-Big site.
2 mile coastal walk into town.
Blink and you will miss it.

Have managed to book a site called Gwel y Mor in Abersoch. Looks nice with good facilities so our fingers are crossed all goes well.
