The deed was done and we went our separate ways.

To be honest, the thought of having a younger SusiBus (with warranty !) to spend the next three years with was rather appealing, SusiBus T5 would be replaced by SusiBus T6 !

Well the house build remains unfinished, l do remember reading that having major building work done was only slighty less stressful than getting separated, so it proved, but we are still talking to the builder. I have now done both - separated from Susi and the rebuild thing - it's time to move on!

PURCHASE MANTRA,

If we want the option, it's only money that will only go to the government in care costs or tax, so SPEC IT IN, VW need the money at the moment!

I've found it very helpful when others have posted their reasons for choosing or not various options when specing up their Cali ,so I'll try and do the same in the hope it might be helpful to someone. I't will probably be a bit rambling like my intro, so I hope you don't lose the will to live while reading it.

4-MOTION --- Not an option l'd spec'd when buying our T5, but it came with it, makes the Cali feel very planted on the road, especially when pressing on, on twisting hilly roads etc, We mainly wild camp, never worry about pulling off road, or gaining access to that special spot with the view at the top of a hill, doesn't scrub tires when climbing the tightest mountain hairpins, now a must have option!
DSG---Brilliant, test drive one and see, try it in manual mode so so slick, but in practice you'll leave it in auto, perfect partner with 4-MO. Must have option.
MET INDIUM GREY---Discrete for wild camping, not too bad at showing bush scratches when access those special locations down narrow lanes.
N7N ALCANTARA/LEATHER--- Leather sides, more durable than light grey cloth

Interested that you are going for 4-motion based in previous experience. I had decided not to go 4wd based on the fact that I'm rarely likely to need it and it will have an impact upon economy and possibly future maintenance costs. But now I am dithering again. Where have you found it most useful? In the UK or on the continent?

4motion To have or not to have?

Mainly in the UK at the moment, we are trying to travel the whole coast of the UK accessing the most inaccessible headlands etc.
As I previously said, 4motion wasn't on my options want list, but having had it on SusiBus T5, I just love the fact that it feels so good on the road, I never have to worry about am I going to get stuck, or should I say reduces the worry.
Not had the experience yet, but just can't wait to drive out of a festival field when everyone else is stuck in the mud,
I've always found in life that you often regret what you didn't choose but paying that extra bit for.
An important asset of owning a California is it’s residual value, the extra fuel consumption is minimal but the extra residual value for 4 motions I feel will more than make up for that.

Yes the big problem is potential on going maintenance costs once out of warranty, this is the major consideration, but this will depend on how long you intend to keep it.

Just go for it! Sit back and think I got the Cali that I really wanted, not perhaps should have had the 4motion option.

I find 4motion is most needed when I go to my doctors and he straps a blood pressure cuff on to my arm.

The places I have been with Albert would have caused my BP to go through the roof if I had not had the reassurance of 4motion.

I can honestly say that once it was essential, a few times possibly I could have escaped with FWD but only possibly, the rest of the time it is that "Whoops"! moment when you have turned off a road and found yourself going where most don't go and with little chance of turning round.

That's when I say to myself "Be still my beating heart, be still, for whilst Albert may not have the passion to inspire he has 4motion".....

It sounds to me like youv'e made up your mind. Anyway if you don't specify the 4motion option then I can guarantee that it will be of no use to you!

Just had a call from VW dealer and I will be picking up my California Ocean up next Thursday.... Thanks to everyone on this forum who has helped with advice and decisions... No doubt I will have many more questions. Our 1st California, so looking forward to it.

Cracking stuff and I believe in a colour I am interested in seeing the Indium Grey. We may see each other in the Alps. A cycling holiday this year in my Touran was the findl push for a Cali. Well done

Hi Michael Ahhh the colour, by far the biggest decision lol... I did order grey but changed my mind so I will be now picking up my Cali in Oryx White with mother of pearl effect.... And sure looking forward to cycling the Alps... This year I did 7 days in the French Alps from one location, including the Marmotte sportive,, next time I will be touring in my California....

Thanks Dave, probably the Lake District over night as its only 2hrs from home. I ordered middle August from Mark Wheelwright good chap at Yorkshire Van Centre.

He must know someone important! I ordered on the 12th of August and build only starts Monday. Maybe it's because it's a beach?
Lake District is a nice place to start.
Pictures as soon as you can please! Especially out in nature, where the vans look extra nice.

I ordered from the same dealer 1 week later than Paul and I should be getting mine in March. Each dealer received a certain allocation of T6s so it was first come first served. Also I believe the spec affects some builds depending on what you've opted for. Never mind all being well it'll be a new plate T6 in March and ready for the spring.

We can all pick Pauls brains as he's the first!

Just ordered a 3 seat beach in Acapulco blue with lots of bits including 1extra seat, ACC, discover media nav, heater and premium dashboard.
We will need the extra seating now our kids are getting older and want friends to come with us!
Now we just have the dilemma of whether to try and sell ours privately when the new one arrives or trade in for a reasonable but still lowish offer from the dealer...

I'm just in the process of ordering a T6. One of my options is :-
Discover media navigation system plus.
While placing the order the dealer came to me and said that a prerequisite for the above is :-
Bluetooth handsfree set with coupling box and WLAN
I'm guessing I can't be the only one who has experienced this. The dealer has told me that the brochure needs to be updated to state this. The brochure currently says that the 2nd option above requires the 1st but not the other way around. Seems odd to me that a sat nav system requires the WLAN option?? Can anyone shed any light, thanks?

I haven't tried to put my order in yet but I reckon he has it the wrong way round. You can't have the Bluetooth etc without the Discover media.nav.

On our order form for a beach we have Discover media navigation ZI7 at £700 and the Bluetooth hands free with WLAN 9IE is then listed as a no cost option along with Guide and inform Z99. We didn't ask for either but we were told that they come with the media package we have selected.
Comfort dashboard package is ZKO.

Looks like you are ordering a Beach Archie so different options. Beach is Discover Media Nav System and Ocean is Discover Media Nav System plus and comes in with the VAT at £1404 so can't compare as plus comes with extras eg app connect that is another £144 etc etc so can't compare this option across models.

Thanks for the info Archie! as Mike says the options are different across models so I'm still not clear if the dealer has things right, hopefully someone else on here has ordered an Ocean T6 with the Nav System and can comment if they had to pay for the additional WLAN option. Its an expensive Sat Nav to start with and lumping another £294 on top seems to be a rip off, especially when it's not mentioned in the options data sheet.

Still trying to figure this out.
When you look at the web site datasheet for the Ocean it does match this exactly. Same code, same price and same description.
When you look at both the Sep and Nov price lists it describes it almost the same but wi-fi rather than WLAN. No code on these but same price.
We are therefore talking about the same item and it very clearly states
"Only in combination with ZI8 -Discover Media Navigation system plus at an additional cost"

Not a lot of help other than you don't need to have it to have the Discover Media Plus but it would be nice to know exactly what it does. I have an idea but no point in guessing. Anyone know. It may even be worth spending £294 on?
