Travelling with kids is great, until you've been driving for 4+ hours, that's why we always have a film prepared. We used to have those little screens on the back of the headrests, when they broke we started to balance a laptop between the two arm rests, now looking into the option of attaching a 22" flat screen TV on the back of one of the headrests and plugging it in the convertor.

Is it bit overkill? Will the convertor be powerful enough to run a TV?

I have a Linsar 12v 16" tv wth built in DVD player, think I payed 90quid for it and it runs from mains or 12v.

I've been thinking about buying a tv for a while now (maybe with built in DVD player, like above). Any recommendations?, and what aerial would be good, without permanent fixings?

Hello

We have an Avtec 16" TV with built in DVD works great off 12v dc with it's own aerial. On site we spin the passenger seat around & hang it via the headrest using the carrying strap that came with the protective carry case.

we use an EYETV its a rechargeable dongle about 1 inch square that works as a digital tuner on iPhones/ipads comes with a couple of aerials the 4 inch magnetic one usually gets about 145 channels irrespective of which way the aerial is pointing.
You can pause rewind & record programmes as well. As one of the kids invariably has an iPad with them for us it works as a tv substitute.

We just take our laptop and use that for dvds plus we got a dongle from maplins that came complete with a dvt aerial and remote
so can watch all digital TV on it too, works a treat.

We have a 'Tivizen Nano' and watch TV on either a laptop or 12 inch tablet with the free app.

The unit is a small credit card sized receiver with aerial and rechargeable battery. It transmits the signal over wi-fi to the tablet or laptop. As it's completely wire free you can place it anywhere high up where the signal will be stronger. http://www.tivizen.com/wifi-dongle.html

I have to say I am mightily impressed with it - we have been all over the south of England and always had a decent picture. It picks up freeview along with the EPG etc. and if you really want to you can pause and record etc.

The battery lasts about 3 hours before needing a recharge.

Another vote for EyeTV W. It amazes me how it always picks up loads of channels. The tiny stick aerial is magnetic so i hang it upside down from one of the eyelets above the roof bed.
